@Scale
What did you use to make the wing joiners for the Texan? This is the one scale element that I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was the best way to replicate them. Peek at the attached image to see what detail I'm refering to. I'd love to know what you did! Btw, I'm jealous of the awesomeness of your model. Perhaps with my new home (i.e., new workshop space) we shoud have a good ol' fashion conversion "face off".I kid, of course. You'd destroy me....

Hey! It nice to be appreciated! In the circles were I hang out My stuff is whale fodder, because it is not GIANT. I have to keep my planes on a table so that they do not get kicked by the general public. I have even seen a stranger pick up my model because I suppose they must have thought it was a foamy. Well those readers who read my build threads know there is more to it.

The wing fairings are shaped balsa. I soaked the strips that I sanded to the half round and bent them most of the way around the L.E.
Then at the sharpest point I had to segment the wood several times. Then a little filler and sanding. I made them after the wing was glassed and of course the three pieces were glued together, because a 54" wing does not have to be in three pieces!

Did you see my first kitbash?

Hell YeaAH! That is one nice shot Scale (attached). I scoff at those who would be-little your craft (pun intended). Seriously though, you wouldn't know what scale this bird was by picture alone. Acutally, I'll put $$ down that most would think it giant. Super nice job. As I stated before, I'm hoping to do much the same with the new home now that I have the space and a true workshop. Bravo! Thanks for the heads up on the fairings - I was thinking of something like that so, i'm glad to get the confirmatio it works - and the proof that it looks great.

And ur right, a 54" wing does not need to be in 3 peices. Can't wait to get on my Texan again and fix that firewall to get 'er up in the air again.

It really helps to have a place were you can leave a work in progress as it is, walk away, not have it disturbed, and then when you go back to it, it is ready right where you left off.
I can now say this will be done next month. Then I can get to my other 50 projects!

The base coat of silver KlassKote is on now. Next, the gear doors, O.D. anti glare panel, and red trim.

No, I did not move the tailwheel to the scale position. It will be squirrely enough. And I have a bad case of getitdoneitus!

Cal Grafix did not have the TA 491 font without a custom order, so here is the closest match from thier stock fonts. That and the tailwheel are obvious misses.
Still more work to do......

You'll have to get some up close pics of the plane. I'd love to see the surface detail! It's looking mighty fine. Nice job - and honestly, I don't think 90% of the people will even notice where you cut corners. How long do u think before the maiden?

Ha! I still have to cut the hole for the glow plug starter. The front of the scoops are painted now.

Outstanding job.... nice deets on the exterior. Very well done indeed. If I may ask, what is the total weight of your fine aircraft?

Would that be including all of the glue dots? Nicely done sir. Another fine example from Dail Aviation.

Thanks guys, I weighed it tonight, and it is 5 pounds on the dot. But, I still have to put in the flap servos and the retracts valve, lines, tank and servo. All that is not much, maybe half a pound. It balances pretty close as it is without nose weight. May add a little lead for the first flight.
Here is a pic showing where I had to put the servos in the fuse because of the cockpit. And that glorious FUEL tank that will be filled with 10oz. of liquid POWER! Should provide about 15-20 minutes of flight time. Take that you Leckies!
The engine runs great with the cowl on, nose straight up, full power. And just ticks over at idle for 10 minutes. I don't need no push button Leckie to yank my AT-6 off the ground. It will be a scale takeoff, the way glow provides. OK I'm done.

That is a compact space to put all the servos and liquid power go-go juice I have to say, I have a bit of "tank envy" going on over here but that's because I'm sipping a 6 oz. tank and I'd love to re-install a larger tank, now that I see it will fit just fine.I'm all about long flights. Again, excellent work. Can't wait to see the pics of it in the air. I'll keep watching the forum!!

Ha! Ha!! OK Sometimes I get a little carried away. I do have freinds that only fly you know what. They are the only ones left flying planes my size[&o]. I do pity them and hope that they will one day wake up and smell the nitro.
The bird should be ready to fly this weekend!
Mmmm couldn't post any pics............
