Don;
The white cover is for the rudder and or elevator push rod, ( see photo below). The red cover I did not use!!
Hey guys I was hoping to come home yesterday and post a flight report on the maiden flight of my 337, but , the back engine had a mind of its own. For the life of me, it would not start. Did 10 glow plugs changes and she would not start!! Use 5 other glow driver and she still would not start. All 10 plugs was brand new and each one heat up when the driver was hook up. The front engine was running sweet, so I took the plug out of the front engine and put it in the back, again no start. The engine was getting tons of fuel, but she would not kick. Today I will take the engine off of the plane and put it into the test stand after I tear it down!! I will be mad if I put it in the stand and it start right up!![>:] Everyone at the field fell in love with it and they was sad not to see it fly.
Stay tune everyone!!!

Sonny, thanks for the fairing photo Sorry you couldn't get her started, I hope you figure out the problem and let us all know how you fix it.
I can imagine they loved her looks at the field, it's a beauty!

A shame it wouldn't start. I'd suspect debris in the carb, as it has a way of finding its way into the tank and plumbing during a build.
Good luck, a gorgeous plane!

Hey Guys;
Well after tearing the rear engine down, I found what stop the engine from running yesterday. In the crab jet, I found a strand of my dog hair. It plug the jet so no fuel could make it through the crab!! On all my planes I install a in-line fuel filter between the tank and the crab. I also have a in-line fuel filter from the electric fuel pump to the tank fill line. So how this hair made it all the way to the crab jet. Put the engine back together and in the test stand and it is running smooth!!!
I hope next weekend there will be so good weather again so I can fly her.
Stay tune!!!

These are the last parts left in the box. I'm not sure if I am going use the white fairings, I can't decide if they improve the appearance or not. What do the rest of you think? Also, the three red fairings don't appear in the manual so I guess I have creative license to place them anywhere I want. They look like they could cover the exit ports for the rudder and elevator push rods, or maybe they are scoops to improve air flow to an engine. Or very tiny wheel pants. Has anyone found a use for these?

Don,
We figured the red ones were meant to be pushrod exits for the two rudders and the elevator. We replaced them with better looking ones from our LHS. I really liked your idea of very tiny wheel pants though! Like you, we are still undecided about the white fairings. It would make more sense to me if they were some sort of extension of the stab, but they are further forward on the real plane. Must have something to do with breaking up the air to the tail. We'll probably add them in the end. As for your radio problems, that is very strange. Sounds like an issue with an extension to me, like maybe you had a good power connection but the signal wire wasn't making good contact causing them to max out. Especially since the nose gear continued to function.
Sonny,
Sorry you didn't get to fly but better to make sure everything is just right before that maiden flight.
Mark,
I received the extra elevator control horn Saturday. Thanks again! People in this hobby are the best!

RE: Seagull Model Cessna 337 ARF
I was told the aluminum stand-offs, for the electric conversion, may introduce vibration. My local hobby shop made custom boxes for me to mount the motors. The boxes are great and bolt to the stock locations. I should have considered what/where the cowl would be screwed into though. I would have asked for different depths for these boxes. As is the front is 70mm and the rear 57mm. I would have gone with 54mm for the rear and 64mm for the front.
I also decided to cut out the muffler box in the front & the tank box in the rear to mount the speed controllers. Hopefully there will be enough airflow using these locations. More to come...

MMallory,
The boxes looks good!!! That is nice to know about the aluminum stand-offs and vibration. You may be okay with cooling the speed controller up front, but the back one may need more. You may want to look at putting the rear speed controller on top of the rear motor box so it will get air from the intake on top of the wing. If you do go that route open the air scope like we have done, so you can get as much air as you can going to the back cowling. Let us know if that work for you. I hope the weather be good for this weekend so I can maiden my bird!! If I do, I will post a flight report!!

RE: Seagull Model Cessna 337 ARF
Thanks! I thought about putting it there but it will block most of the airflow in that position. I was thinking since the floor of the model makes a tunnel from the front to the back; the airflow going through would be enough for the speed control. This would leave the airflow coming in from the top to cool the motor. I guess I'll test with my Makita blower to see if it will work in practice.

I am in my workshop and I look at that and you were right!! It will block a lot of the air flow!! Let me know how your test go.

Airflow to the rear ESC:
I am building a Cessna 337 that I got from General Hobby, and I wanted to share a comment.
One thing you may want to consider is placing a fan on the rear ESC. It is very easy to do. A small 5 volt fan (or a 12v fan with 2S or 3S lipo) is easliy powered a long time by a spare battery. The fan does not have to rip it up to be effective, as even the slightest amount of air flow is far better than stagnant air, and will significantly help to keep the temp of the ESC down. I have a 60 size Long-EZ that I have done this to (image 13) and it is very effective and keeps the plane's ESC cool. Great thing is you can get these fans for cheap (the fan shown in the image cost $2.49, and is a quality ball bearing new unit), or if you don't care you can buy fans for RCcar applications that will work just fine. Make sure they have a ball bearing for long life.

RE: Seagull Model Cessna 337 ARF
Sonny or Joe, or anyone else who has flown yet, how does she balance? Does it fly ok at the manual balance point of 80 mm back from the leading edge?
Still too cold for me here in Cincinnati!

I have yet to maiden my 337, but I have it balance as per the manual. I am hoping the weather will be good for this weekend so I can maiden her. There is one person who has maiden his 337 and I think he was balance as per the manual and he said it flew fine and he love it. If I do get to maiden my baby this weekend, I will post my flight report.
Stay tune!!

RE: Seagull Model Cessna 337 ARF
Don, I balanced mine at 80mm using a GP cg machine. I had to add about 5oz to the nose and after the maiden it felt way to nose heavy so I removed 2.5oz and it flew great after that. I'm not sure that the 80mm is correct but you won't know until you fly. Good luck on your maiden and Sonny we are all waiting to hear about your maiden hope you get to do it soon.

Cal Orr has a Seagull Skymaster that he says is a real 337, he made a retract system with the sequencing gear doors.
His model is electric, 2-eflite 15 with 10x7 props and a 4 cell Lipo battery on each motor.
The airplare sounds GREAT flys Great and looks good with the gear up.

You are right, it sure looks good with the gear up.
I would love to see a closer look at the rear retracts!

RCspectator;
The pictures do help, but, can you ask Mr. Orr to send you pictures of the gears them-self and how they are mounted?? The plane do look nice with the gears up and the wheel wells will add in cooling the back engine for people who went with nitro!! Thanks again!!
