RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
hi, happy new year!
i would like to ask if zenoah 62 with jtec top flight p51 style pits muffler would fit inside that cowl without extra cowl cutting at the side of the muffler.

thank for your reply, i have seen those pics you talking to, but this zenoah g62 has a reduction gear too so its a different setup from what i would like (without any reduction gear), but thanks anyway!

I manage to video a couple of Tronds ESM 109 flights;
The problems on landing is in my opinion because of a to high exponent, and too little max elevator.
And a bit to nose heavy.

Not in my opinion.
He came in too fast on both approaches and tried to force it down to the ground. These ESM planes at this size range tend to actually float a good amount. He needs to slow it down a little more on the approach.
I also dont think its too nose heavy. It took off just fine and showed no tendency to want to nose over or overrotate even with the added resistence of the snow.

That's all right. It was not the intention to start such a discussion. I mentioned it just to point out that some adjustments are needed, its not allways a pilot issue.
Lots of people automatically concludes that the pilot must do this and that, forgetting that a warbird can have adjustment issues regarding CG, elevator exponent and max elevator deflection.
The exponent was 40% and a too low max elevator. And he added 160g up front before the flight. Made it more difficult to land.
It behaves just like the ESM Corsair ; It is simply to light to let that snout be anything but down, down, down. As soon as you lift that nose the slightest, it start increasing height and does a full stop in the air, then points the nose down, and bang.
You need to keep the speed up and fly it all the way in with nose down, down.
It doesnt matter if it is high up in the beginning, as long as you dive and have it flat and low when crossing the start of the airstrip. If you start raising the nose to slow it, it stops in the air very quickly.
It weights 10.5 kg's.
The Vailly on the other hand, is 7 kg heavier, same wingspan. You can lift the nose, and it still sinks through, while slowly loosing speed. This one, and the ESM 50cc Corsair gains height and stops.
In my opinion.
But, again, he will dial it in. Lets hope the gears aren't ripped out in the process.
I think I found the way to land the 50cc Corsair, at 5:50 here; ( Without zipping my lip)
I realise now I should'nt have added the video here, with a comment. [:'(]

Would have to agree with Ty. One can land the plane that fast, they just better have a lot longer runway than that to set it down on and roll it out as the flair isn't going to be very necessary at that speed...just the gentle touch down on the main wheels and letting it roll....something a short runway and snow drifts don't allow for very well. Nice flying plane. I hope the prop gets replaced before flying it again. The little crack at the tip in the pic looks ominous. [X(]

At the risk of flapping the trap I would go along with this if we all zipped the lip[:-] the site would shut down lol think we can all learn from this event nice flight anyway brave guy to fly it, the strip is somewhat of an air craft carrier. I know my Dora would have ended up in the snow [&o]

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
The plane was still wizzing by the camera both times on the landing attempts in the video Kwik. Im not arguing...just stating what experience has shown me...and by no means am I an expert. That being said....if you go slow and the nose pitches up, then its very likely its still on the verge of being tail heavy. He was still too fast on landing approaches.
That runway is is decent size enough and the airspace wide enough to come in more flat(while still keeping the nose slightly down) all while slowing the plane down. Trust me...I had the same issues with my ESM FW-190D9 on the first two flights. I came in way too fast and it wanted to pitch UP the slower I got...especially when the wheels touched down.....at that point...it wanted to bounce back up nose high and do that stupid bounce dance thing we all hate to see.
Before the 3rd flight, I ADDED weight to the nose....almost a pound....and now the plane comes in nicely....a good glide slope...no pitching and nice easy touchdowns. I could easily land that plane on that snow covered runway.
Im just trying to help your friend...thats all.

If you read my last comment you will see im agreeing with you i cheated and only watched the start and the second landing the one in the middle which i just watched was a arrival the one at the end looks like his nerves fell apart the old land at all cost but hey 4 turbines and 9 warbirds im still open to learn

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
please can anyone tell me why esm had done such a bad choice of making such a big hatch at the top of the plane;
its really very ugly and it destroys plane scale look, otherwise plane is very beautiful!
i am almost done but my look always stays at that really inelegant big hatch!
i cannot believe that it was the only choice because i also have esm 50cc spitfire with two part wing and the classic way of putting it with the fuselage by using four bolts and i have no problem!
has onyone tried or will to close that ugly hatch by glueing it to the fuselage and using some putty and painting of course and open a new opening right at the canopy side; ...i know that we will have a difficult access to the inside of the fuselage but probably it worth trying.

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
Hi,
I'veglassed the cockpit hatch to the fuselage. I've made a small hatch on the bottem of the fuselage to get acces to the rudder and elevator servo's. The rest of the radio equipment, tank and plumbing for the sierras is accessible through the oilcooler hatch. I'm not finnished yet but getting close.
To those who've allready flown this plane. At what CofG did you balance the plain?
greetings kjel

I'll take some photo's of my accespoints tomorrow. I live in a small appartment, so I'm building this plane at my parents place.
