Hi Kjel,
Thank you for that information! I definately have heard, those Glennis wheels are not cheap and they do take a long time to get, but it does look spot on in terms of detail. Can you show us the retract bay? I have read in an earlier post that others were finding difficulty clearing the spar when going over 5 inch diameter on this model. Did running these 5.5 inch Glennis involve much modifying in the retract bay? When it comes to 109's, I feel the correct sized wheel with details does alot to capture that genuine 109 look.
Thanks again!
Louis

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
Hi Louis,
I'll take some pictures this afternoon and explain what I did. I had to do some surgery, but mainly because I moved the gear inward towards a somewhat more scale location. I used the Sierra landinggear which has shorter struts than the origanal ESM gear. This also moves the wheel inwards. This will give you a little bit more room to play with. But I still had to dremel a piece of the spar which is running through the wheel bay away. Also because of the moved position of the landinggear I had to cut away a few ribs. This leaves the topskin of the wheelbay with very little suppurt. To strengthen the topskin I've glassed the inside of the topskin of the wheelbay. Also I've strengthened the spar at the wheelbay with carbontape and epoxy.
greetings kjel

Kjel,
Thank you and yes I believe narrowing the wheel stance will improve the scale appearance and yes understandable how this can increase clearance for the wheels, stability on rollout maybe another question but if its not significant then maybe it will not change the ground handling too much anyway. I am looking forward to those pictures.
Thanks.

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
Hi,
Here are some pictures of my access hatches and wheel well and some other pics. I've cut the firewall from the fuselage and glued the cowling to the fuselage. I've put a few layers of glass inside the cowling to stiffen it up and put a new firewall in it. Basically it is the same setup as the Meister platinum 109's. If it is necessary I can still replace the pull/pull cables although it will be a fiddly job. But I think thats worth it. Indeed juring the build the cockpit hatch was very convinient. I've installed Ty's cockpit and did most of constructive work to the cockpit when it was still a hatch. The last thing I did before I was ready for priming and painting was glueing the hatch to the fuselage.

RE: ESM 50cc ME-109
another video with painted spinner and 22x10 3 blade fiala prop(plane flies better with that setup but i will finally put 23x8 3blade fiala prop for a more scale look)

i would generally say that esm 50cc planes fly much more better than those 30cc models

do you have any recommendations for resolving ground looping due to engine pulling force during take off;
do you have any rudder expo or not; whats the rudder and tail wheel travel adjustment;do you have any wheel toe in or toe out;is you tail wheel pull pull system stable-robust enough;
i always start accelerating very gradually pulling the tail down using a good amount of elevator but i alwyas feel that the tail is very sensitive.....

Half flaps on take off my friend....works every time. BTY mine has a DA 85 in it with a tremendous amount of torque and with flaps on take off she tracks as sweet as can be. Hope this helps you as it has helped me

whats the reason of using half flaps; does the tail lift up sooner so it stops being too sensitive to ground looping;
thanks!

having 85 cc and half flaps during take off dont you have any danger of lifting too soon and stalling;

I tried a lot of stuff that people that don't have the airplane said to do.....none of it worked, but the flaps work great
