Sorry Gentlemen, I dropped the ball and forgot to reply to you when I received my muffler. It looks great and a lot more sturdy than the stock muffler. I have not tried it out yet as I decided to recover and add rib stitching and other scale things to my Bucker Jungmann. I did however refer J'Tec to another guy at my club who said the J'Tec exhaust worked great and sounds awesome on his Pitts. He called them up and they have them ready to go now. I had my exhaust modified for my plane as you will see in the pictures the tubes are at an angle. The guys at J'Tec were friendly and helpful and we BS'd on the phone even after business. I would highly recommend them. I don't recall exactly what I paid anymore and I can't find my confirmation email or receipt but I remember it was a little more than the Bennet. Sorry it took so long for me to reply but enclosed are the pictures of the muffler and my re-do Bucker.

Well sorry again, this F-ing site will not allow me to upload the pictures right now. I will try again later. Just my luck!

Finally!!! Had to shut down the computer and retry.

I hoping to have my plane back together in maybe a month. I am almost finished in fabricating and need to recover. I will take pictures and video of its re-maiden with the new exhaust.

I have one for my engine as well but have not tried it yet for sound. Still a little cold up here.
The only thing I would like to see would be if he could spread the tubes apart a little more to allow
the spark plug boot more room between the tubes they are a little close to the tubes.

Hey Magnum, you are right! I didn't notice that before. I am sure he could spread them more as there is room on the sides. I hope this just works for me now. I think I know what I will be working on tonight!!!! Lets hope it works.

I'm going to slide some high temperature Silicone tubing down the tubs too see if I can pervert the spark plug boot from making contact with the exhaust tubes.

I just got a word today from Bennett Mufflers, that the DLE-55RA mufflers are ready for shipping. They are now also listed on the web site.

http://www.bennettbuilt.com/shop/Mufflers.html

Regards, Jim
Well I got one of the Bennet Mufflers, great design, VERY strong, however, on running the same prop as I was brfore on the standard 55RA muffler, I was now at 103 dB at 3 metres, and the RPM's were down by approx 400 rpm. This is with a APC T6 prop (I am racing it in a mustang).Put the original DLE muffler back on, and dB is back to "just" make the limit (98), but the RPM's are back up to where they want to be.
As soon as I started the engine with the Bennect muffler, it sounded cackly and harsh, but the outlet tubes on the Bennet muffler are much smaller than the original muffler, so apart from the actual size of the muffler, I think the tubes are choking the engine.
I have had to go back to the supplied muffler, just hope it holds together.
My 2c worth.

Is this Bennet muffler the only aftermarket option we have at the moment?

Any tips to reinforce the stock muffler?

On post#127 Red Falcon got one from J-tec. Other than that I think that's it. I have the Bennet for mine but have yet to start it.
I am suprised Slimline hasn't made one. I think there may not be much faith in long term existance of the RA engine.
That is just an opinion of course.

You could go with a canister setup.

I saw the JTEC above but it han an angle, I suppose is intended for the regular DLE 55.

I can't go with a canister because I will use it on the Hangar 9 P-47, so it has to be scale.

But thanks for the help anyway!

The J-Tec muffler I received from them the tubes come straight down. I have about five flights on the muffler with no problems.

Guijs,

I had that J'Tec muffler made special for my application with the pipes angled right and back. If you give them a call they can do anything within limits to your specifications. I originally wanted only one pipe but they told me that would choke the engine. So, that's what I mean within limits. Still working on my plane so I have not tried it yet. I bit off more than I could chew adding rib stitching!

Thanks Red Falcon, I already contacted JTec. They have several types of muffler for the 55RA!

Hi

I ordered my J-Tec muffler a few weeks ago ( 55RA ) , through a fellow flyer , he also ordered one so it took a little longer . Looks beefy , and well made . Glade the silicone tubes aren,t there . Because of it,s small size ,...... very lite .

Hi Michel,

Any chance you can take a picture of your J-TEC muffler ? All they had at the JTEC website were some generic pictures.

Thanks,
Joe M.

Hi

Ya sure ,.................. No problem . One thing about the J-Tec muffler . The exhaust port on the engine is 29.5mm wide . While the exhaust port on the muffler is 25mm . Thats .149 , too much for me ,............. so I filed the opening on both ends . Must be a production thing for the welding of the inner tube . Now I have 29.5mm. I think 5mm is too much , it acts as a re stricter plate

So do you guys think that the Bisson muffler is no longer good for this engine since everyone is using the jtec?

Thanks for the pictures.

It appears it will be OK on the plane I'm currently working on, although I need the tubes to be a little longer. It looks like you may have cut some length off the tubes......true ?

Thanks Again,
Joe M.

I couldn't find a muffler for the DLE 55RA at the Bisson website, only for the DLE 55 with a side mounted muffler.

Did you find a Bisson for the RA engine ? Maybe I overlooked it.

I think he ment to say Bennett Mufflers.... All I know is that J-Tec mufflers have a bad habbit of coming loose to matter how much LOC-TITE you apply, where as the Bennett you don't have this problem. And the J-tec cost about a third more.
ya'll do what you want, but I'm very pleased with my Bennett muffler.

Jim

I sure would like to see at least one RC muffler ad go something like this:

“When it comes to mufflers for radio controlled aircraft, are you tired of spending countless time searching the surrounding fields for expensive mufflers that have fallen off ? How about all of the visits to the welding shop for aluminum muffler repair ? How about the constant loosening of muffler fasteners ? Are you buying and replacing blown out muffler gaskets by the dozen ? Is that your trouble Bunky ? ?

Well......our recent redesign of our mufflers for radio controlled aircraft is unheralded in the industry. Much thought and many man-hours have gone into the perfect RC muffler. They are designed to be strong and the attaching bolts will never come loose. Except for the event of a crash, our mufflers are designed to never break, to never crack, to never fall off and also to never rust or corrode.

Because of this, we will be offering an unheard of unconditional lifetime warranty on our mufflers”.

Ahhhhh........just a daydream. [&o] Wow.......if I saw an ad like that, I would gladly pay the big bucks for any of their mufflers !
