Moving to Cincinnati, Oh
I will be moving to Cincinnati, Ohio and was wondering where are the good flying fields for jets. I currently have a Skymaster Large Hawk

Bob,
thank you for the reply. I flew at the hawks field in the late 80's. Do they have a new field that doesn't have the tree line at the end of the field? I looked at the website, and it looks like a totally different field.

I hear that for the next 2 years you can fly at the old Blue Ash Airport. Haven't flown there yet myself. But I would like to check it out. I hear others are already flying there.

Terry I heard that too, but you can not park at the flying site. So you have to haul your stuff way out there!

Gary- I have not stopped by there yet. I had no idea that there was limited space. That would be a deal killer for sure. At least for the jets. If I get the chance, I might stop by there this Sunday. If Saturday is nice, I'll be a Joyce after work around 3:00.

As I recall there are tall office buildings on the other side of those trees. I guess it depends on where we would be allowed to stand for flying but there is also a golf course at one end with Reed Hartman Rd at the other end, which is a very busy road. You can probably stay within the boundaries but if one ever gets away there are alot of things to hit. It has become a very congested area in the last 10 years.
It is probably worth giving it a shot though. I don't mind the walk if we can fly from a nice runway...I will just bring the red wagon.

I'm not trying to disappoint you but Cincinnati doesn't have a real good flying field for Jets....runway size, that is. As Bob B. was saying, I have the same SM Hawk in the Saudi Camo scheme and fly it at GCRCC but that field only has a 400ft paved runway. You got to land it on the numbers. I also fly my Eurosport and my Elan before I sold it. The club members are great and welcome jets completely. We just need 200ft more to be real comfortable. The Hawks have 550 feet but the runway is only 25ft wide and the grass around it is a little rough. I flew the Euro there but not my Hawk. Even though the Hawks have a longer runway, I feel it is easier to fly at GCRCC......more open.

It would be nice if we could fly at Blue Ash, but I think it would be a waste of time. Even if you got the suits to let you in, it won't be long before the construction crews start moving in.
I took a stab at Wilmington Airpark and got a reply from the assistant director. She basically blew me off, and said to contact her next year.

I went to fly at the Blue Ash airport last Friday. It is about maybe 600-800 yards to the main runway from where you have to park. Flying off the taxi way is not possible as it is used by kite flyers, dog walkers, joggers, walkers, etc. I saw at least one jogger running down the main runway. I ended up not flying and went to Joyce instead. I do not think flying jets or anything more than a park flyer would be a good idea at the Blue Ash airport. Although it is permitted for the next two years before construction begins.
