Where Have All The Kits Gone ?

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Ed,
Bluejay doesn't make the Troublmaker kit, Bluejay does Bridi designs. You might be thinking of Eureka Aircraft as they have the rights for the old J&J kits, which the Troublemaker was one of. Like most of us, I too have a stash of kits for that "someday" build and I have a J&J Troublemaker kit in the stash.
BTW - Do what you need to do to stay healthy, us old timers are a rare breed!

When you think of a model airplane kit, maybe it's time to assume that it will be something from a laser cutter. There's too much motivation for the historic companies like Sig, Top Flight, etc. for selling ARFs. The design, development, and testing has already been done for a laser cutter by the original designer/manufacturer. So value is in the production, not the design.
No new kits under this concept though, but alot of neat planes.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Cornell Micheals is cutting me 3 more. has 1 finished 2 more to go. (1) 80'' span 1935 E-2 Taylor Cub, (2) 1/4 scale H-2 Taylor Cub with 3 cyl. radial eng., (3) 1.20 size P-51 and out of the same plan a twin eng. P-82 ''type'' Reno racer. Then he's going to help me with a 1/5th scale Ziroli Bear Cat racer!!!!!!! I just can't be happier with the quality and great service he gives me!!!

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Too many posts at this point to wade through 'em all, so please forgive me if these guys have already been mentioned:

Been a long time since Gordon Banks, Editor and Publisher of the late, great RC Report magazine sent me an Air Flair Sundancer 40 to review. At that time Azarr owned the company. When I received the kit I had some trepidations because the building instructions were text only, no photos. But between the written instructions and the plans I wound up with one of my all-time favorite flying airplanes which, sadly, I eventually strained through a tree. I wrote in the review that it should have been called the "Clark Kent," because it looked like a trainer but flew like Superman.
A fellow named Don Riggin has the company now, and I ordered a Sundancer 15 earlier this week with the intention of electrifying it. I believe Air Flair kits are machine cut, but if the quality still is as impeccable is it was the method of parts fabrication will be irrelevant.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Ok everyone, I've read through many of the posts on this subject, but can anyone recommend a 60-90 2c size (70 - 75in / 1700 - 1900mm wingspan) kit of any one of these: Spitfire, P40, Hurricane, Zero (or consider any other WW2 era fighter). It seems to me that all of the "KITS" are either in the 50in(1200mm) size or the [horrendously expensive] 40+cc size. I'm in Australia so if you have any clues as to where I can buy them then that would be an added bonus.

Adverse yaw
I understand your situation, kit building is great but I have found scratch building meets my needs more precisely, may I recommend building from plans which you can have sized to suit your needs. Any number of plans can be had free by downloading from this site and others, I have more than I can count all free.
good luck...happy flying..........Donny

If you just look at them a say "Someday I'm gonna build that kit", then it's hoarding.

When I do finally build the plane I go through the plans and I will trace all the parts so that I can cut new parts later on if I ever decide to build another kit and one isn't available. Doing this also helps in repairs if I have damage to the plane.

Done with Ebay
Well they've really Jumped the shark now,,, it been getting worse since they changed the fee structure and dropped the insertion fee, but now the spam is rediculess,,
For years I've had a daily search for "Unassembled Kits" in the RC section,, http://www.ebay.com/sch/Airplanes-He...E:B:SS:US:1150 to find those rare kits that might spark my interest, over the years. Now I scroll through that and it a bunch of crap, crap and more crap from Hong Kong.... no longer worth the effort, a bunch of toy helis and quads,, really?
What the heck is this?
I sent them an email,, didn't even get a canned reply,, Bye Bye Ebay
Edit,,,
I just realized something strange,,, when I go to my saved search on the first page I see the new or latest 50 listing of "unassembled kit", usualy about 500 hits,,, but when I hit page 2 or any other button it is showing all 35,000 items in the air/heli section even though the boxes are check to narrow the search,,, I guess ebay has a major glitch going on??

Well across this country there are hundreds or thousands of guys sitting on 50 or more kits dating back to the 50s, a couple of guys in our club could start a hobby shop with what they have. That should help understand where they all went. We have had swap meets where some have 150 kits for sale, good place to look if you want some of the older models.
