1/16 too small 1/10 too big
Ok, so I just built a track in my back yard and it's a blast. Problem though, my 1/10 E-Revo is kinda too big for it and my 1/16 Revo is too small. I've been looking a little and I like the looks of the [link=http://www.losi.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=2311]Losi Mini-8ight[/link] but I'm afraid it's too small, being the same length as my current 1/16 Revo. I like the price though at $250 (since I want two of them) and it looks like it would totally dominate my mini revo cause of it's low center of gravity. How are they durability wise?
Another thought was the [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LWC523&P=7]HPI Racing Bullet ST Flux [/link]. It's $350 though. But it's water proof! I like that a lot. I'm not sure how good of a track racer it would be either, I'm looking for a good track buggy that is in between the sizes of trucks I currently hvae.
I don't know, what other buggy style - track options are there guys?

the "1/10" revo is really the size of most 1/8 scale models. that's traxxas marketing for ya.
Grab a 1/10 buggy or short course truck. true 1/10 models will be a good size for your track.
Team associated SC10 is very good.
I just bought a thunder tiger phoenix xb. Its brushless, is really a team associated B3 and was $200 RTR (tower hobbies)
A 1/10 short course truck isnt much shorter than the revo, but has a shorter wheel base and is not as wide.
A 1/10 buggy is right in between the mini revo and 1/10 revo.
Grab a 1/10 buggy or short course truck. true 1/10 models will be a good size for your track.

The Losi 22 is only 2wd it looks like, I'm thinking I want 4WD.
Nitro... guy, I think you're right on the scaling marketing thing. I'll look at some 1/10th stuff and see what I find. I like the buggy idea, never owned one of them.... yet.
Just measuring the trucks the mini is 12" long and the revo is 23" long. I'd like something right in between the two, like 16-18" long.

Remembering I want to buy TWO of whatever (so I can race someone with an equal machine), kinda makes price an issue. The Mini 8eght is looking better the more I search. I'm in no hurry though, this could take me a couple months before I figure something out.

I couldn't find any specs on this thing, I would like to know it's size.

there are a few good 4wd 1/10 buggies. tamiya plasma edge DF-02, or for racing team associated B44.

It's a tiny tad bigger than a standard 1/10th 4wd buggy. For example, the latest 4wd racing 1/10th buggy is the Xray XB4, it has a 280mm wheelbase, the Kyosho DBX has a 300mm wheelbase, and the eRevo a much larger 360mm wheelbase. The DBX is a good car and with a good brushless system, that's why its expensive, it is worth it though, you would pay 2/3rds of that for a comparable brushless system alone.
It's such a shame you can't get the Hyper 10TT easily anymore, that chassis and a cheap BL system is literally exactly what you want. Grrr, when will HPI get the Hyper line together again (long story, if you're interested, ask and I'll give you a Hyper history lesson
).

t9dragon - I have looked at the XS before but that guy is more of a monster truck, the more I think about this the more I think I am set on a buggy..... MAYBE short course style truck but I haven't seen any of those in the right size range I'm looking for. I definitely don't want one that is just as long as my E-Revo, the corners are pretty tight on the track.

The hyper 10TT shares its platform with several models, parts shouldn't be a problem for many years even if it remains discontinued, which I doubt it will.

It comes as a kit, you have to build it. But that isnt hard and can be alot of fun.
With the kit being $120, you add a $80 brushless system, $15 servo and $25 flysky radio. End result is a brushless 4wd buggy for $240. Then you sell the stock motor/esc and get $25 back.
Honestly tho, Id just grab a couple of short course trucks. They make good racers on surfaces that are not perfect. They have enough ground clearnace without being tippy. The large body helps protect during bad landings/crashes or bumping into other trucks. SC10, ecx torment, slash...plenty of RTR options that are all tough and fun to drive. SC10 and slash are also availible in 4wd....if you can spend that much cash.

Well as someone that owns 2 DF-02's its not a bad buggy if you want to put a lil bit into upgrades (and have tools to do some work)
Stock though its a tad slow on a 27T brushed motor, they take lower cost brushless motors quite well though.
Upgrades that are almost needed is the aluminum front shock tower (and one cut out of fiberglass or 3mm aluminum to be placed on the opposite side to reinforce it), some piano wire to make longer "forks" to hold the arms on(stocks are short, and cause the chassis to break), shocks, and ball bearings as the bushings suck.
Too bad ofna canned the CRT.5 line that would have been perfect

Short course trucks aren't actually very good bashers anyway. They jump badly, you can hardly see the wheels (more important than you think), and they have pretty low ground clearance. They do have a penchant for landing on their wheels from accidents, which is the best bashing feature about them, they do look cool, and they are a pretty sturdy 1/10th platform usually (tougher than 1/10th buggies), but I really feel the DBX will be more rewarding as a driving experience, and the Hyper 10TT even more so with its 1/8th style chassis layout in a compact truck. Those cheap HK cars are just that, cheap, I would advise against them IF you can afford better. I've considered pulling the trigger on one myself in the past, the prices are very tempting, but I know it wouldn't live up to my standards and I'd be betraying myself, since I can afford better. Some of them represent acceptable value, once you accept that you will get a hundred dollar vehicle, no more, no less.
Out of the cheap seats, Redcat stuff is a decent choice, if only for the fact it is well supported with a community and upgrades for the weaker parts. This is the problem with some of the hobbyking stuff, there aren't any upgrades, so you'll be replacing the same weak parts constantly.

All you have to do is look at the reviews on hobby-king to see everyone breaks stuff right away and wait along time for parts to become available.

You guys are right. A co-worker of mine bought a redcat for christmas and all they have had with it is trouble. I feel bad for him actually cause he's working on it more than driving. I love my Traxxas stuff for the fact that it's pretty darn tough. Ya, I break stuff now and then but nothing as bad as by co-worker has experienced.
So having said that, I will stay away from the HK stuff.
The short course trucks do look cool and temp me somewhat, but at this point it's a toss up between the Mini-8ight and DBX. Choices choices....

I've decided boys, I'm going with the DBX. Two of them. I saw and handled a Mini-8ight at a store today and it's just too small. Then I saw a 1/8 buggy (can't remember which one) and it was perfect. So I'm going with the DBX. I just need to sell something to fund it. My RC hobby must fund itself (says my wife) so one of my 13 planes may get sold. We'll see.
