1st poly one ready for slingshot launch for Best CG location. Only radio equipment installed.
2nd epoxy fuse. Very much a superior lay up structurally and finish. Even with scrap pieces of glass.

Yea, I'm a member too. It is a great place to test planes like this, with an 800' runway! In the summer and afternoon, a steady south west wind blows right down the runway, helping those heavy landers!

Thanks Vic
Kinda forgot how exiting it is to create one of these.
I had forgotten how crappy polyester is. It reminded me.
I'll make another epoxy one in a few days for me. Gave the epoxy one shown in previous post to my buddy to work with.
This one is going to be slingshot test drone in a few days to see where the CG and other stuff need to be.

Hi:
The mold and fuselage look great. What type and thickness of glass and epoxy did you use on the mold and the fuselage?
Thanks for your time.

Thank you.
I knew better but.................
The 1st fuse is 6oz "s" glass, plain weave, polyester, pinhole free. 1lbs 4oz
Polyester, not a good idea. Basically the cheap test dummy prototype. But junk layup.
The 2nd fuse is a West Systems epoxy lay up with 2, 5.8oz "e" glass plain weave. Top notch fuse. Very durable. Pinhole free. 1lbs 9oz
Of course the 3rd one and beyond will be the best ones. The first few, the mold "teaches" you what it needs.
The mold is made of west systems. The glass is 6oz, x 4 and 1, 20oz and aluminumized epoxy surface coat.

Thanks for the information on the mold and fuselage construction. I started on a plug for a plane many many years ago. I could not find any information to help me so it still today hangs from the rafters in the garage! Nice build up and enjoy reading as you progress. Thanks again.

RE: All composite 1/10 F-104 scale 90mm edf plug/mold fabrication
It is a T38 that I started and ruffed out about 20 years ago. There were none on the market at that time. I mentioned it to a couple of capable people and the next year I saw some show up at a popular model show. I still am not sure on finishing it. I would like to start new and build a plug to flying plane complete. With enough people like you doing it and sharing your knowledge with us, I just might start anew.
Thanks again and keep up the pictures and explanations.

Please ask if you have any questions. (Some of the posts don't give all the details). Although mine took over a year, in hours it really was not nearly as long. The Talon. I, however like the F5A. a cousin of the T33. I have a very nice scheme for one. But my next one is a 90mm edf MiG 21 MF.
It's a great feeling to create your own model. Little at a time. Avoid burn out.

Launched the model pictured in post #126. today. 2 times. Powerless air frame at 3lbs,9oz. tested the CG location and general flight characteristics.
Seems like we got a winner. Next is with power. A few days.
I have around 10 seconds of video, but will post it later.

The video of the powerless launch was recorded over by mistake.
I do however, as of today, have a powered flight off a catapult launch. It will be posted in a few hours when my kid can do it.

This flight gave us a lot of data for the next one. It will be complete with ducting and a high power system. Wing tanks, ect......
CS 90mm 12 blade Tacon 1300kv 62amp draw, 1300watts. No ducting. A mock up tube with a bell mouth. Winds around 20-30mph maybe.
The model came in at 6lbs9oz. Mostly the lipos, 6S 4000ma.
Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8WJP9Bvnac
Feel free to comment.
Thanks to Scott, Turbonut for launch ramp and design support.

AMP - I am building a scratch built project with no prior experience. I have had very good advice from Dean Lassek, Ed Munoz(both from local Denver club) and Ron Schwartzkof (Ft. Worth). You can see my project at: http://www.sidgates.us/HOBBIES/F-94C/F94C%20PROJECT.htm

RE: All composite 1/10 F-104 scale 90mm edf plug/mold fabrication
HI:
Does anyone know of a place to buy the blue or pink foam in the Ontario-Fontana area? I have checked with Home Depot and Lowes in the area with no luck. I was looking for 1" and 2" 4x8 sheets.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the suggestion on the foam. I have heard that the blue or pink is better and I just wanted to try it and see.
Thanks again.
