Im interested in buying a ready to fly or nearly ready to fly or as a last resort a nib or barely started Hotspot. Any body have one they would like to sell ? Prferably someone in the states or Canada/ Mexico to keep the cost of shipping reasonable.

It took a bit of searching but I found the post you reffered to. it was not on my thread but on the one about a guy in need of a canopy. thats why I had trouble finding it. I sent him an email. he lives less than 5 hours drive time from me. thanks for your help.

It is my imprsssion that most if not all guys fly their Hotspots with ailerons and elevators as opposed to elevons. Is this correct and if so why ?

Elevons only.
you need the whole trailing edge as an elevator to flare it if you want to land slowly, and not run out of elevator.

Many of the pictures I see on this thread clearly have seperate ailerons and elevators.

yea, for redundancy, and in the early days, one servo was not strong enough, so you could use 2 "weak" servos pr wing.
The 2 servos in each wing are working together as one.

Read through this thread and there is a lot of great information here. I have a hotspot that I am refurbishing for the flying season. When the plane was originally built the owner used the screw through the top of the wing method of securing the wing to the fuse. Well that is starting to pull loose and I need to redo the mounting method. I found the original location of mounting the wings with the wood tab. I have a partial size of the tab, which is a 5 ply piece of hardwood that is 1/4" thick, 1/2" wide, but I don't know how long it is. If anyone has this information please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

The plywood tab on my wings measures
1/4 " thick x 3/4" wide and it sticks out the wing 1 7/16". I have no way of telling how much of it is buried inside the wing, so I cant really tell you the actual overall total length of the plywood tab. The screw screws in from the bottom and appears to about a # 10 size screw, I think mine is metric in actuality. The center of the screw hole is approx 7/16" from the inner end of the tab, or, 1" from the wing root depending on how you wish to referance it.

The plywood plate for fix the wings had over 2", 1" glued into the wing, you must make some holes for fix strong.
I used metric too, M4.

Thanks Guys thanks for the information. After reading this thread I was inspired to finish up my hotspots and get them flying. I am refurbishing one, and building a new one from scratch. I hope to have my son flying one of them soon. I will post pics of them soon.

Converted mine to turbine power on an ATJ 120 ti, detuned to 105k rpm (max is 123k) and got a few flights on it.

Gonna have to bother painting the fuselage now, after a year on ducted fan and now 3 successful flights on turbine, it has earned it!
I also really miss rudders...

By the way, after this flight I checked the airframe and I found out the skin has completely detached from the formers behind the gear doors opening.
Good thing, thanks to this forum, I reinforced the glue joint of the leading edge of the skin with a fillet of hysol and a few screws through the skin and into the wood, or it would have ripped off.
Time to hysol the rest of it, I guess...
I am going to make a few holes in the trailing edge of the fuse to reduce the pressure a bit also. And should bother with gear doors...

I didn't fly particularly fast and yet it got damaged. Cannot imagine what would happen on a high speed pass!

After a succesfull maiden last week I got a few more flights on it today. The only thing it needs now is some paint...

Thanks for the kind words. I allready have two offers from clubmembers who want to buy it! If weather permits I'll take it out flying again tomorrow, and then take out the reciever to mount it in my Tucano. Then I can prepare the Hotspot for paint.

I think it was me that bought the first Hotspot in your pictures (the purple one). It had a Simjet turbine installed.
I traveled down from Scotland & met you at a service station.
When I came to live in Cyprus about ten years ago, I brought it & another one with me. I sold both to a friend here. Yours is still flying.
