Steve, be sure to frame up a new set of wings when you do break it out. The foam wings are garbage pure and simple.

I remember back when the earth was young and still cooling and dinosaurs still roamed the earth and I was a young and stupid new builder and foam wings became all the rage. It seeme like all the kit manufactures were giving foam wings a try to speed up the building process. I built several and hated the wings! I'm glad that is one fad that has died for the most part!

I saw your post in the Byron thread about that. I'm thinking of drawing up some wing plans. I have a CNC router that could cut out some parts pretty quickly for this.

Hey All,
Anyone know where I could get a BH 120 Ryan here in the states or from a foreign firm that would ship it here?

Hi all,

Does anyone here have the Ev Cassagneres drawings for the Ryan STA? I have about 15 drawings (I believe the whole set is over 200), showing most of the major parts and assemblies that would be relevant to a modeller, but I am missing drawings for Bulkheads #2 & #3, as well as several other drawings. Please let me know. Thanks.

On a cold Alaska day I was on another forum discussing RC aircraft when I remembered I was a member here, have not posted in years, even longer since I worked on my Byron Ryan STA. Its mostly complete except for control lines, engine and paint. I have heard this model is actually kinda rare now that its been out pf production for many years, I bought mine in 1990 or 91 last I remember, last time I worked on it was about 6 years ago, its been sitting in my upstairs storage room all this time, I even had plans of using a salvaged chainsaw motor in it at one time.

Its a big plane, I was energetic about building it but stopped short about flying it, one crash and then it would be history, so maybe I'll finish as a giant static model.

I'm on currently page 22 of Vincent's incredible build and taking notes for reference on my future SIG STA build. My affection for Ryans' has been passionate for several years and bought my SIG kit about 28 years ago. It never got built due to the great fortune in finding and restoring a full scale Ryan PT-21/22. The PT was restored, flown and sadly sold a few years later and the SIG STA kit remains waiting to be built.

I also have a currently flying modified Sportsman Aviation YPT-16 converted to EP and a recent Herr Engineering ST EP conversion nearing completion.

Please add me to the list of the Brotherhood and thanks for providing a place for us to get together.

Dick, aka Capt Easy

Hey Capt, glad to have you on board and your welcome. Man I would give my right arm and learn to fly with one to have a real Ryan PT-22, so sorry to hear you had to sell her, that had to be heart breaking. Vincent sure is an incredible builder isn't he. Great detail on your Ryan there, love the real leather coming.

I'm proud to come aboard. I'm soaking up every page of Vincent's thread like a sponge with every intention of trying to apply as much as I can to my future STA build. With only about 4-1/2 years RC experience the SIG kit will really be a huge challenge.

Thanks for the welcome to the Brotherhood and the kind words.

Hey Raptureboy,

Count me in. I have been wanting a STA from the day I saw one hanging in the Detroit Institute of Arts museum. I can't believe my luck. Today I found a guy, only 20 miles from me, selling a Sig Ryan STA Special. The airframe has been completed except for all the plastic parts and covering. Can't wait to finish it. Got the plane, plans, box and all the parts to finish it for $100.00. The only thing missing is the decal graphics sheet. Does anyone know where I can get that or have another option.

Thanks
Tom

Thanks raptureboy,

I'm excited about this build. Always wanted a Ryan. I'm still reading through this forum and the Vincent build forum. Coming up with allot of questions I will sure to have shortly.

I have built and rebuilt quit a few modern day kits. But, the methods used in this old Sig kit just boggle my mind. Especially the hinge making process. With all the newest products, now on the market, we new builders have it pretty easy compared to the old days.

Here are a couple quick questions for now.

1. Are the flying wires for show or are they actually needed. I like the look. Just not sure I want to hassle with them every time I go to the field.

2. I have noticed , so far, that allot of the guys are building the kit and not using all the fairings. Is this because they are difficult to install or what?

Well, for now I will continue to read.

Thanks

Tom
