Any 2650kv motor appropriately geared will get you to 70mph, even on 4S. To make it easier on yourself, you could get a lower kv motor and run it on 6S, say a 2200kv, with a bigger pinion. You could get to 90-100mph with the right tires.

For those kinds of speeds you are probably going to need the OFNA foam tires... http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Dot-17mm-Hard

The biggest problem you are likely to face is that of pinion size. for crazy speeds you will need a large pinion, so I hope the motor mount gives you enough space for a 20-25t pinion, otherwise you may need to find a smaller spur gear.

based on jang's review of the mad drift you are going to run into a big issue. The stock motor is basically a 550 long can motor. The motor mount wont fit a larger motor and there is not space for a longer motor. So it may be hard to get a stronger motor that will fit.

I too want the mad drift, as it seems like alot of car for the money. Stock speed is around 35mph. Im sure it could be geared for 50mph...but pushing it beyond that could overheat the motor or esc.

If you want 70mph, the ofna 1/8 GTP-2e electric would be the way to go. you can buy it as a kit for around $200.

yeh, if the mad drift had a true 1/8 scale motor and motor mount it wouldnt be an issue.
But given its slightly smaller than 1/8 scale motor mount it would be hard to find a setup that would fit and give you 70mph.
Im waiting for nitrorcx to have a sale on the mad drift, as it is alot of rc for the money.

If you want to be able to run 6S don't get that ESC, it's known to fail on 6S. If you are going for high speed, you will want to run 6S. My advice about motors is already posted in my first reply. Get a 2350-2650, run it mostly on 4S with a decent size pinion, then when you want a speed run, bump up to 6S and just don't overwork it.

Hobbywing xerun 150 Amp esc. Hobbypartz.com or nitrorcx.com has them (when in stock) I have one that im currently using in my e-revo. I also set it up in my 1/7 Ofna DM-1 (slightly bigger then the ofna 1/8) and much like the e-revo, it runs just fine. For the esc & motor combo its about $200 shipped. The only thing I don't like about the combo is the ESC tuning/programing box. The box is suppose to allow you to tune "on the fly" but for some reason after I updated the box, it says it still needs the update [&:]!??!
In other words, in order to tune the esc, the esc gets connected to the > programing box connected to the computer.
Your supposed to be able to just go from esc > programing box. So if i want/need to tune the esc I have to plug it into a computer (which is what I do)

Anyways imo its one of the best "bang for your buck" brushless combos you can get on the market today.
On 4s its pretty good all round. On 6s you will end up either needing to re-glue your wheels or your just tare them apart and need new ones.

I should of gotten a video but I was too lazy to do it at the time[&:]
Unofficial on the 4s with decent gearing, a good guess would be around a solid 40-50mph. I didnt run the car on 6s being the road just wasnt a appropriate spot for anything faster at the time.

So in short its not too difficult to built a 1/8 onroad something to hit 70mph+. Also keep in mind a 1/8 ofna would be lighter then a 1/7 ofna

Thats the combo Im running currently. But as you can see on that page it does say Out of Stock (which it seems like they are with 80% of their stuff)

Yes I saw the out of stock info but I was just looking and thought that was a good one. So you have it on the 1/7 vehicle? What would you not bo with you setup if you knew at first? Being would you had gotten a better motor or esc or is that setup what you was looking for

Nothing really. Aside from the the programing box (which Im sure I just need to do some more research on the updating issue), I havnt really had any issues with this set up in any of my vehicles.
Eventually when I have the funding available, I will put a (now) water proof Mamba Monster kit in my e-revo and keep the hobbywing kit in my ofna. I have yet to see a 150amp ESC for under $200 let alone under $150
