That....is.....incredible! You've got crazy skills...and obviously a workshop full of machinery to match. Looks like you'll need most of a full scale runway to fly that baby from. Awesome project.

Really nice work roschi, beautiful. I just happened to be driving down the freeway near my home a couple of days ago only to come upon this:

Unfortunately it is painfully clear that the (always know it all, but recently atrociously lacking Reno crew) was NOT getting the job done.
I will miss a few of that crew dearly, especially Dave Cornell, but it is definitely for the best regarding the future of our beloved BearKitty, much less the health and future of unlimited air racing!
I can only pray that it is not to late for Rod to convince Tiger Destefani to field Strega again in order to meet a worthy Rare Bear!
Thanks for posting that gnarly, humbling picture of Bear goin' down the road, (reminiscent of 1969).
Chuck Roundy
Note to future edit: RCU will not let me upload pictures at the moment.

RE: Build 3W Rare Bear Bearcat
Roschi, Sir, you have captured my attention like no other in many years. I also build and fly Rare Bear!
Our's is much smaller, only 62 inch wingspan (uncut so far, like F-8 Bearcat) but with Rare Bear wing tip shape and no flaps like Rare Bear!
First let me compliment you on taking the initiative to make the 3W kit properly Rare Bear shape before painting it as such.
I can not tell you how much it shames me when people call a half (assed) modified Bearcat Rare Bear!
The cowling shape for instance. And also I appreciated the way you re-worked the fuselage up to the existing canopy to get the shape close to right!
Your willingness to share so many details of your modifications, with pictures, causes me to want to reciprocate.
My airplane is:
62.5 inches wingspan
approximately 735 sq. inches wing area
exactly 15 lbs dry, plus 24 ounces of 30 to 65 percent nitro methane fuel. (this gives me 5 minutes of full throttle).
Engine is YS DZ 170-175 (now on CDI). I turn an APC 16 x 15" at about 9,000rpm static. that unloads to 11~ thousand @ 200mph as we have found.
Go figure, it turns out to about 52-55 oz per square ft., and 37 mph outright stall speed when I have to land her deadstick, still full of fuel.
I must say that she is a sweety pie to fly at her weight, we did give approximately 3.25 degrees washout in the moulds.
And all the moulds are our own. (That comes in handy sometimes).
P.S. To anyone with English fluency that has access to access to Roschi's attention, I will appreciate your help tremendously!
Because I have questions of my own:
What is your projected weight?
what is your wing area as clipped?
what prop diameter and pitch do you expect to turn at what rpm?
I truly do want to reciprocate with pictures of the inside of our 4 year old (flying) airplane Roschi, but I suppose I must first find an image host like yours.
But in the mean while: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c2CNENare4
and: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...m.htm#10959190
Best Regards Roschi !!!

I hope you have more success with the Century Jets U/C than I did, I could not get it to work properly. That is what set me on the path to hydraulics, which recified all the problems.
I think you may find the main doors prevent the leg from moving (airflow).

Or were you just going to rely on sheer snobbery to magically help?
Or did you honestly never care about helping in the first place?
Honest questions these...

But I still call bulcrap from your tone in your post, for goodness sake we both know full well that he has all that garbage figured out. Did you even look at the way he modified them with his own machined parts before you posted?

Hai Chuck
Your Rare Bear racer it s craesy fasssssst
Because of your questions!
That weight is nearless 52 lb or nearless 24 kg dry
and the wingspan is the shorte version with 88,6 Inch or 225 cm
and long is she 2,3 inch longer with my new self made bigger Bonnet
The Prop its a Biela 32 x 18"on the Grond 4500 rpm and by Top speed
5500 rpm till 6000 rpm and the speed nearless 190 mph or nearless 300 kmh
thats not so important for my!
Its OK Chuck!
Mick the retract function 100% have a lot of Tests befor to work and build in the Rare Bear
thats my first problem

I didn't see anything in his post that would warrant such a reply from you.
Your tone is screwing up a rather nice thread here, that's not even yours to do so with. If the OP has issue with what he's wrote, and I doubt he will, he can deal with it.

I have met your kind before, and you ALWAYS peter out just like that.
Take care that you do not imply that I, or any one else beside you has an agenda that only you imagine.
You are done boy.
Roschi, I am soo sorry for all of that sideways stuff. As a person who has actually proto-typed and flys a heavily loaded and fast Rare Bear, I hope earnestly that I can persuade you to share your projections about your own sweet BearKitty!
Thats all I was ever after.
Thanks in advance hopefully, Chuck Roundy

Don't ruin a great thread you guys, It's shameful too see all these great pictures and then to come across an argument that is really about nothing.
