Default Avoid Aeroshell 500

KingTech owners, please avoid running Aeroshell 500 in all KingTech engines, it's been consistent that this oil will cause excessive coking in the combustion chamber, injectors, contaminate and deteriorate bearings well before 25 hours.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Regards,
Barry

Barry,
What alternatives are you recommending? I just stocked up on Aeroshell 500.
Thanks

Thanks for the head up. I ordered two gallons of the oil Kingtech sells. $90 for two gallons with free shipping. That's $11.25 per quart delivered to my door.

Barry,
Is this only an issue with diesel?

It's not the Diesel at all with our engines. I have ran 40 hours on my K170 #001 with Diesel and our oil and sent it back to the factory for evaluation. The bearings were still in good condition and internals were as nice as your typical 25 hour interval service ran with kero and compatible oil.

It's not the fuel, it is the compatibility of our engine and Aeroshell 500.

Just in case if one needs to run Mil-23699 turbine oil to be compatible with other engines, I had great experience with Mobile Jet II, BP2197 BP2380 and some others. However we have a local jet pilot running our oil in his P-70 for a good while now without an issue.

Barry

I ran BP2380 the first 5 gallons, almost out but I have a order of 2 gallons of the kintech oil on the way Glad you posted something about this. I've hear some other negative things about he Aeroshell 500. I'm sure it works well for some guys but I'm always in the why take a risk crowd.

I don't recall what brand turbine it was but at FL jets we inquired about the what really are the differences specifically the BP, aeroshell, and the labe less (jetcat oil?) and which one was better to use. Seemed like the wasn't a good solid general consensus besides oil is oil but from what I could see the BP was preferred by most guys and is also what a few friends have been running for years and feel safe using. I did get a vibe to just avoid the Aeroshell and that the few bucks savings wasn't worth it. I had also read through a few posts and saw a few similar negative feelings towards the AS500. You just start to get that vibe that tells you to stick with what you feel is safe and what your manufacturer says So we won't be running the only can of AS500 we have and will be sticking with the KT oil from here on out. Buddy bought it because it was the cheapest they had at the dreamworks trailer at FLjets but we have only ran our K100G's with BP so far. I think my order of your oil arrives in a day or two and I'll be running it strictly from here on out

So I received a few turbines this week that needed my attention. The nice shinny bearing you see on the left is from a K-170F, 22hrs, kingtech oil ran with deisel, crash repair. The black, crusty bearing you see on the right side, is from a K-140E, 10 hrs 34 minutes sent with a complaint of the rotor sticking. The reason the rotor is sticking is pretty obvious!!! Stay away from using Aeroshell 500 with your KingTech Turbines. Your Turbine will be much happier!!!

Kingtech oil is the way to go, that and diesel fuel, so simple, cheap and effective. I always pitty the guys who have 55 gallon drum kero tanks in there trailers, or the smaller 15 gallon ones and how they from fly in to fly in stocking up on Kero / Jet A

Not for me, go to gas station, fill and mix a quart in that 5 gallon, DONE.[8D]

Kingtech oil, $90 for two gallons shipped to your door. Hard to beat that.
