Default YS FZ115-S

I was thinking of purchasing this engine, but haven't seen a lot of threads on this engine.

Does the FZ115-S have more, the same, or less power than the FZ120?

The engine has been out about two years, how has the reliability been?

This engine would be put in a Venus II. The alternate engine would be the OS 120AX.

I talked to someone at Central Hobby, and was told that they are going to come out with an addition to the FZ115 sport series. This engine is intended for use by the warbird racers. There is some piston modifications, and the engine is capable of running up to 50% nitro. He said they are running 13 X 13 props on the prototypes.

Any input appreciated.

The guys now are running more than 50% fuel and the 13x13 is for the 30-40% if I am correct.

I would also think your plane wil fly better with the 115 over the 120 as the 120 weights more.

I really like the 120 AX as it is pretty close to the power of the 115 on 30-40% nitro and the 120AX only needs 5-10% nitro. Oh and this is with the Jett 120 Red muffler. It spins a 16x8 at 9,600 and the APC 14.5x14.5N at 9,100 on the Jett muffler.

airrapotor,

Thanks for your input.
I am a four stroke guy and would like to stay with the 115, but the engine cost and fuel expense of the 120AX is also a consideration.

Well....I just happen to have two of the 115s's.....& one just happens to be installed in a "Venus II", the other in a "Groovy 90".....replaced "YS 110s's" in both airframes......have used them since shortly after they were first released.....zero problems / love um!.....never had a "YS 120".....I do know there were "Several" versions of the 120's, so probably hard to compare......you don't say if you have any "YS" experience, but I can't imagine you not loving the "YS" feel on the throttle/stick!.....FWIW

Y.S. is my preferred four stroke engine.
I have the 140L, 120FZ, FZ63. and 45SE.
With the OS 120 costing $175.00 less, having more power, and being able to use 10% fuel is starting to outweigh the YS 115. Got to pull the trigger one way or the other soon.
I was concerned with tank location with the OS 120 in the Venus II. I had trouble with the high tank in the Venus 40, and the OS 46FX combination. I put the FZ 63 in it and never looked back. Still flying great.
