Other than a clear coat, the right wing panel is done!

I glued the hinges in place using one of my dogs insulin syringes. I pulled out the needle and replaced that with a CA glue tip. Works great for getting the glue into the slots!

I then pinned the hinges with two stick pins, put a drop of CA on them, cut off the heads and tapped them flush. Then I sealed the perimeter tape over the top and voila! But did I forget anything.....???Hope not!

Here's a few pics! (BTW, has anybody tried the "Multi-File Upload"?)

Nice work there David. It may not be a bad idea in the future to wipe off your hinges with some alcohol to ensure they are contaminate free before your next install. I like how you've hidden the pins under the perimeter tape good stinking....I mean thinking

Thanks guys!
I hit a snag last night. Started covering the sides (bottom is done, that was easy!) but I think I cut the covering to short so going up to the fin and top stringer was WAY too tight and in the process of trying to stretch it, I ripped the Solartex instead. I'm hoping I have enough left in the roll to restart that side. Live and learn I guess.
I've got to be honest, I'm almostembarrassedto show these photos. I feel like "WHAT WAS I THINKING???!!!"

OOPS! Fortunately for me, I left the pictures at home in my camera. I'll edit this post tonight and post them.

Well, my internet was down last night, at least to the WWW. Couldn't go to the web or send/receive email. I could however get onto Skype, don't know what that's all about.

Any, to start off, here are the photos of my mistake. I thought it was going to be easy, somebody told me it would be... BUT... (No offense Robert) But then that same somebody (who will remain nameless) said the way that I am now going to do it will be a lot easier! So, here ya go!

In all seriousness, Robert has taught me a lot, along with Anthony and VJ and others, but I have a "direct line" to Robert so I'm always asking him for advice. Thank you my friend!

Anyway, I recovered (so to speak) from my "mistake". I tried covering the side and top with one piece originally, now it'll be two pieces. OH Yeah, I covered the bottom too, but that was obviously a piece of cake!

Looking good! I've taken a break from the cub for a few months doing a lot more flying. I've even picked up some heli flying which has been good and very challenging. I've been flying the stuff I've built but I did break down and buy an electric ARF Extra. I've come to love the ease of the electricity vs. IC engines. I think I'm going to change my Cub and power it with electricity - which as spurred my interest in getting it finished up.

Yes, I'm moving to electricity. When it came to sandwiching the fuel tank in and getting the throttle servo and all the linkages done up front I really lost entheusiasm for the build. Electric will be a much simpler set-up and if something were to go wrong or need adjusting in fuel throttle servo area it would be a PITA to fix. I might yet get this build in less time than you've done yours!

Actually, I have no problem with electric or ARF's.  That's right, you guys heard me, no problem at all!    I just like building and this Cub has been a super learning platform.  I really almost hate to see it end, it's been fun as well as a stress reliever.  I love coming home after work and spending the rest of the afternoon in the garage... uh.. er... I mean hanger, tinkering, building and chatting with you guys.  Yep, there's always the next one as long as I can somehow get it past my wife...  [X(]

Anyway Neddy, don't let it get you down, let's go full speed ahead now!  And think of the electric this way, it'll be a lot easier to keep it scale looking, provided you can find a place for the batteries.  I'll be really interested to see how yours comes out!

Take care and ENJOY!
David

Well even though electric isn't my cup of tea, SunDevilPilot if you remember started off with the intention of his Cubbeing gas then midbuild he changed it over to electric. It's one of the nicest Cub's I've seen.

I'm all for the electric Cub!!
I have three of them.... Sig 1/5th Scale, Sig 1/4 Scale, and an Aero-works Sport Cub... All electric.

(The Aero-Works Cub on the bottom of the third photo is mine)

You know, in all seriousness, I kinda wish I'd gone electric.  Get a more scale look, easy starting, cleaner...  The only thing is, when you have a detailed cabin, where do you put the battery?  And what size do you use in the 1/4 scale?

Well, this time around I wanted to try gas especially with the price of batteries, at least at the time.  I just might think about it on my next big build.

And truth be told, I have only one other engine powered plane, my Ultimate, which has a Magnum FS120.  Really, it's kinda fun but messy, a bit anyway.  Everything else I've flown has been electric.  So I'm with ya!

I hate the slime of glow now. Gas is better in that regard but electric is very easy without any of that. I'm not going to do any sort of interior for the cub so battery placement isn't an issue for me. I've been doing a ton of reading over the past couple weeks and I feel I have a fairly descent grasp on on electric systems for planes now. I'm going to go for an "overpowered" cub like would have been the case with the DLE30 I was planning on using before. I've decided on a 10s powered Hacker A60.

Bzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzz what was that? I don't' know, a large yellow bee? Only my foamy arfs get electric, sorry I just have to have the sound of a real engine. Nice work on the cubs all. I picked up a 1/4 Siglast fall from a guy all framed up for $75. It hung in his basement that way for 20 years and boy did it need some sanding! Ihad to sand so much to remove all the degraded surface on the sheeting that I sanded right through in some placesbut it's looking better and will geta 20cc gas engine.

To each their own. The only time the sound of a model would matter that much to me is if I was going to put a radial on it.

UPDATE: I finished the covering, rib stitching and pinking, although I haven't got a photo of the fin and rudder pinking. I did however put the wings and tail feathers on to get a shot of it. That's the first three photos (as if you couldn't tell). Then I went on to install the "aluminum" over the nose, which is just poster board. It's all primed and ready to paint. Hopefully the weather settles down soon, it's been a bit windy.

Oh, the last shot, that's not a bonnet, it's my wifes old robe she was throwing out.
