You got a great deal on the cub. When you start your build go ahead and take some pictures. The nice thing about the Nitro planes cub is it actually can get built within one person's lifetime! I have followed several cub builds and find most of them if not all died out long before the airplane is finished. I am happy to see that Nitro planes has continued to carry this aircraft. I still fly mine and it sure has a great presence in the air. It also flies nice. Good luck on your build and let us know how it goes.

Tom,

I am looking forward to it arriving. I had it shipped to work prevent spousal shock! I have a DLA-112 for the engine, and may have a Robart 1/3 scale Cub gear available. Just not sure of the fuselage width at the gear attachment points. I have some Hitech HS 645MG and HS 5645MG servos, which I think should be okay. I'll take pictures as it goes together.

Think that I can make a set of racks to haul it around on a bike trailer.

The Cub arrived in fine shape. It is the largest box that I have ever received via UPS. I ordered a 1/3 Super Cub BUSA cowl from Fiberglass Specialties, it came today. It fits, and the engine DLA 112 will fit inside. The firewall will need to be shorted, and I am going to mount the elevator servos in the cabin instead of the rear of the fuselage to offset shortening the firewall. I think that there may be room to use canister mufflers.

Well I'm glad you're cub got delivered without any damage. I have had many planes that failed to arrive without a hole poked through the boxes. I had to laugh about the spousal shock syndrome. I still have my original box stored in the closet, it is huge. WEll that is good to know that that cowl will fit the fuselage. It gives an additional option to those that wish to give it a bit better scale outline. You're DA 112 is going to be a lot of power for the cub plus it is a light engine.
I am eager to hear how your build turns out. I'm especially interested in how you're going to drive the elevators that long of distance. I have not flown my for several weeks now, for some reason this hot summer has really slowed me down. But I will get it out for sure when we finally get a break with some cooler temperatures.

I'm debating on this or the BUSA1/3 SuperCub. I'll need to build that one though.

I saw that. They were $299 up until a month or two ago. Looks like they have almost doubled. Still got mine..

here are some photos of what I did on mine thanks to Ken41 that recomended a cowling from fiberglass specialities , basically i got the standard plane with a DLA112 engine and had to cut the cowling in two to make it wider and then again to make it taller but the end resil I think was very good as i wanted a J3 not a super cub .

Would like to talk to you about the construction of your Nitroplanes cub. I did a lot of re-gluing and would like to know of weak spots you have encountered.

When I was building mine I did pour several ounces of thinned laminating epoxy into the center wing section. I covered all the holes with tape and then rotated the piece on all axis to coat the entire inside with epoxy. This eliminated the need to cut it open. The motor box got extra glue and fiberglass tape. I did CA most of the exposed structure in the fuselage, something I do on all my ARF's. Basically I have not had any structural problems with my Cub.

is there a chance I could get any pictures of servo placement etc from you? I am planning to use this in our glider tow events and have concerns about the tail feathers standing up to the tow line or the line becoming entangled with the servos if I put them in the rear. I also want much larger tires than those supplied but have not found a 5 or 51/2 narrow enough for the axels.

This cub was not designed as a tow so your on your own there. Page 1 shows where I placed the servos. Do you actually have this cub or are you looking to buy a giant scale tow plane?

I bought the cub from a modler who was moving out of the area. It had Turnigy TGY 1501 servos and anFTL 100 cc flat twin engine. I normally fly SeniorTelemaster type aircraft with 90 to 120 power but I am not familiar withthis aircraft, engine, or accessories that are supplied with the kit. I thought it would work well as atow plane but it will require a fair amount of modification to mount the tow rope and to beef up the wing mounting. I would like to see howothers have done some of the beefing upor ruggadizing of the aircraft.I am trying to find the pictures on page 1you mentioned.I am new at the forum anddo not understand it yet - but getting there slowly.

got my blue cub a year ago I put a saito 36 gas engine in it handles like the real plane take off is scale wheel lands  realistic  most people would like more power I felt the structure was a little weak for the dle 111  I did mount one on it and only taxied around with the wings off it the vibration from that engine at idle and low throttle was considerable I figured over time it would not hold up to that kind of power so with the saito fg 36 I can fly over an hour sounds good with the 4 stroke slips  rolls  spins and will fly very slow my only regret is I should have purchased the saito 57 twin instead of the dle 111  for the $500 more the saito would have still been a bargain  I picked up the 36 off ebay used nice little engine   again if I were to do it over again I would buy the 57cc twin saito  and get 2 planes instead of one @ the $300 price tag  now they want $550 still not a bad deal
