Two steps forward, one step back at the moment!

It flies!
Maiden flight today at a Uk jet meet.
Weather was typically British, wet,cold & blustery wind , but she flew fine.
Many thanks to dave for doing the maiden.
Flew at half throttle for entire flight.
Just a few tweaks to do and she's perfect.
Things to change are- reduce the throws of the nose wheel as it was very sensitive (not helped by a bit of crosswind).
And get the main gear to stay up, will increase air pressure or next flights.
Lengthen the nose gear just a tiny bit.
I'll post some photos once I've been sent, and hopefully a video also.

Sounded cool with the twin mw44's!

Yep, balance was good and control travel and expo guess spot on! Power is plenty, so looking forward to some real A-10ing...maybe at Duns...

Dave, Duns sounds good for some more flight time, will have to get some ammo to hang off her now!

Neil Jarvis ( who flew mark browns electric powered version) took a video of the flight. It's mostly grey on grey due to weather, but does give an idea of how windy an gusty it was, and how well the plane lands ( with dave at the controls!)

Latest Classic Jets event and some more flight time.
landing gear converted to electric now, using Robarts own conversion kit.
gear also moved forward 10 mm to assist with takeoff, although take off was acheived at only just over half throttle, with half flap.

Looks much better with the missles and bombs i think.

Take off is a bit better than before, but there is still a lot of weight on the nose wheel, especially as James has most of the fuel in front of the balance. if the wheels were another 3/4" inch forward it would be better, or maybe 1/2" on the nose leg length. Either way its OK, its more that I roll on the power slowly as the vertical axis nose wheel is direct until the thing is moving quite quick.
I have a few more mm of air space there to play with before we trade paint...
Its a great model and a credit to you (and James's building) We had three good flights yesterday and considering the weight of this one, it's well behaved. As we get more trust in the turbines I'm experimenting, did the first aerobatics yesterday and power is good with 2 x MW44's, loops were large and round.

How much weight did you guys add to the nose? I will have to make some custom tanks for the new version so they will fit correctly.

Chris, i didnt weigh the lead, but made it removeable so will unbolt and get back to you. There wasn't as much needed as i thought there would be initially, and managed to get all the batteries etc right up front. I think if tanks were made to go over/around the wing spar area it would be fantastic.
I might well change mine to move the tanks further aft, i have them butted up to the fwd anti rotation pin, and never moved the further aft due to the need for acess to get the wings on and off. However i now have a big van and the A10 fits in, in one piece, which would allow me to move the tanks right back to the wing spar, which i think i will do for next time out.

I thought James was a pilot? He can just divert the flight to Florida. Maybe it was somebody else i was thinking of. I cant remember one day to the next anymore.

I know it would be cheaper than me buying a $5000 camera and figuring it out myself. Maybe we should get him to Florida jets next year.

You guys not flying the A-10 tomorrow? Some video?

So more flights yesterday after changing the fuel tank configuration again.
As i now have a decent size van again i can transport the A10 in one piece, allowing me to move the fuel tanks right back over the wing spar, and right over the CoG, without having to mess around moving them to get to the wing bolts.
With this configuration and full power takeoff the model was airbourne in about 1/3 of the distance that it took on its very first flights and we no longer need to bend the stick back trying to get her off the ground!
The moving of the tanks further aft made her a little more senstive to pitch changes (due to the centre of the tanks being right on the Cog), but quickly identified by Dave (who has flown all the flights on her) to be more when pulling up, most likely due to the thrust across the top surface, so 10% of extra expo dialled in just on the up elevator has removed the sensitivity.
So we have now got her all dialed in, nothing left now but for me to start getting some stick time on her!
Hope my experiences will be of help to anyone else getting one of these in the air, either turbine or electric, its a great model.

Nice job James! Glad you got it all worked out. For some reason, I did not get notification from the post on the other thread. I am still working on the new version. Trying to outsource some of the new components has been a real challenge. Invertmast ( Thomas) has just moved down to Florida about 20 min from me and working together hopefully we can be more productive on finishing out our projects. My regular work has got in the way which is kind of good because its very easy to dump a ton of money on these projects. Funds are a necessity to get finished.
