HPI Savage XL Powered by Gasoline Engine Release Date?
Hey everyone. I've been searching everywhere and had a buddy call HPI but still nothing on a release date. Has anyone heard anything at all? I heard it's been in the makes since August of 2012. and was unveiled in January of 2013.
This is the most I've heard on the Gas powered truck. And when It is released I will own one. Shoot, if they are priced right I will buy two! I'd own the first one if I knew where one was at.

It was talked about back in may of 2011. HPI has been going through ALOT of changes lately, and I suppose when ownership changes and other things are involved new projects get put wayside.

then it kinda was forgotten, and resurrected at the toy fair.
since then again it seems to have been forgotten
IMO if it literally isn't built out of 100X better materials than their newer crap it will be a very expensive shelf queen at best (if it ever gets released)

so i read it has hardly no tuning and more run time.... so question is whats the motor itself gonna cost because its an 1/8th scale motor so i would take it you could put it on your savage x or savage xl? am i correct? my old savage X would be awesome as a gas vehicle

I had a chance to take a test run of this truck, it was awesome though it was prototype and mounted a baja silencer muffler. The engine is huge, about 3 times the size of F4.6 engine. Starting was so easy, no need to use ignitor or roto start. Just a simple pullvery common on Baja but exciting for savagers.
The output is not violent, but smooth, but still there's a change to pop wheelies(not very often). Top speed is about the same as stock 4.6.
I'd like to wait some more time for this awesome new truck...but it's true that HPI is tringing the world too long...

Thanks for the info, Crop. I'm patiently waiting for any news. And you are right, I'd wait til next year if they were able to work out any flaws before releasing it to the public. I'd even volunteer to test one out with a open mind.

Now we shun HPI. The Octane is the only one I was interested in. They can keep the rest of them. But now it's just a distant memory to me. I'm off to bigger and better things. Another Losi XXL sounds good to me.

This is starting to sound like vaporware. I'm still floored that after all these years, no one else has already produced this.

I was looking forward to this truck as well but decided on the 4.6 SS kit instead. Tired of waiting for it and seeing no improvement of it actually being released. Me personally after seeing them change the size of the engine a few times I just don't think they can get the power out of it like a nitro of similar size would provide. To do that they would have to go much larger on displacement then it would just be impractical.
