I think you'll find that the retracts for the A26 are probably the same and I think you can still get them along with the struts from Hobby People. www.hobbypeople.net

I ordered a set from Hobby People amonth or so back. They had a close out on them. Ihave a set drawn up in CAD so you could work from the dimentions for other replacements.If they don't have any more. The one's I fgot this timehad wire holes in the main blocks vs holes for the struts. Not a big deal, just drill out to size. They matched the drawings I made from the first set that I sent back. The side frames were not punched out correctly and nothing aligned well them. The screw holes were all off and the side rails had quite a dihedral and twist in the mounting surfaces. I sent them back and when they got a new shipment in, they checked the new ones and they were the same as the ones I sent back, so they gave me my money back. I put the plane aside and when I saw the flyer for the retracts, I decided to go ahead and buy a set, knowing I may have to repair them before I ever use them, as my progress on making my own wasn't very good. At least the last price was quite a bit less than the first, ones.

I ordered a set as well when they went on sale. I also had to machine out the mains. Hopefully there shouldn't be any additional issues.

Completely dismantle them and make sure the spacers and washers on the two side to side tie bars are equal lenghtn and that the hole all align OK. Ihaven't done this yet with mine, but things look better from the start. One think Inoticed is that the mouning holes are different on the mains from the first set. HUmm, just noticed the the air fitting on the dead end of the cylinders is a 90 degree fittinv vs the straight fitting from eariler which was pointed out as a tank clearance issue early in this thread.

I'm about ready to start on mine. I had been holding off as I didn't really have a way to transport it to the field. Just before Xmas, I found a good buy on a not very used Chev Uplander Cargo van, so no more reason to hold back.

Just a heads up guys. After 3 years of flying this plane, I'm noticing that the plastic fuselage booms where they meet the firewall are cracked to the point where the firwall is threatening to separate from the fuselage boom. I am going to have to strengthen this by fiberglassing the fuselage booms to the firewalls all around. [:@]

Hi Guys,

First post! I've just bought an ASM P61 secondhand off a chap in the UK, as I've always been a Turbine flyer, This is my first twin so i'm looking forward to getting it in the air! I bought it just as the complete Fuse with no retracts etc, However, I will be installing retracts but not the poorly designed Air versions, I've sourced a trike set of mechanicals which should fit nicely, The guy also lost the Actuators but luckily i've gotten around that problem by fitting a 4 inch length of thin gauge wire between each door so when the retract leg pops inwards, it pulls the door in tighty with it! When the doors open, they're on a spring with a small neodymium magnet to keep them open and not flap about in windy conditions (Got to be scale you know!)
I'm going to be using it for FPV too as the cockpit will allow my sony HDD HD videocamera to fit comfortably in there!Plus there will be several mini camera's mounted all over inc one in the turret so I can compile some lovely views whilst in flight

Just wondering if there's any other folks out there with one still airborn?


I've also removed that awful MoonHappy lady on the side, did a google image search for ''Burlesque female drawing' and sourced lots of pin up girls to be painted on the side of the fuse

I'm in need of a nosegear strut for the ASM P-61 retracts (strut set P/N 190231). Global/Hobby People say they've been out of stock for 3 years.

Does anyone know of where I can purchase a nose strut (or complete set of struts), new or used?

Has anyone found a suitable replacement strut that will fit if the original is not available?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions-

It's going to be tough locating the ASM gear. I have been lucky not to have any problems with mine so far. There is some discussion on this thread about others who have used different gear that worked out for them. I set my Widow up running electrics with good success. I also have an ASM Invader that will be electric as well. I was able to find retracts for the Hanger 9 B-25 that I will tweak to use. Anyway, you should be able to find something that will work. If I remember right, I think thet were Spring Air. Good Luck. Ken

So much for a repair, It hard to repair something that is missing. Forming that 90 degree bend wouldn't be easy.

I have a set, NIB, and could take some measurements if you have to go that route. Ijusthaven't gotten around to starting my build so they are easy to measure up now.

If I could find the correct strut or complete set I'd buy them. If nothing is available, I'll just find a different nose gear retract and strut. There are plenty of each available in this size range.

I'm just trying to take the easy way out if possible

Bump: I'd still like to find a complete set of struts (new or used) or even just a used nose gear strut. If someone had the retracts as well and wishes to sell everything together, I might even go for that.

I purchased this P-61 from a gentleman last year. His father was building it but passed away before he completed the plane. Turns out his dad was a P-61 pilot in WWII. I replaced the ThunderTiger 52 4-stroke engines with a pair of Turnigy G-46 motors, sealed up the holes in the cowl where the engine heads poked through, and vacuum formed my own landing gear doors.Still have several hours of detailing yet to do but will be flying it in a few weeks at the Columbus Scale Classic.

Well the P-61 is pretty much finished. I have two flights on it now and the E-Flite four blade props pull it around in very scale like fashion at 3/4 throttle. Here are specs on this bird.

Retracts: Spring Air with Robart 3/8" Robo-struts
2 Turnigy G-45 electric motors
2 Turnigy 70 Amp Speed Controllers
2 Turnigy Nano-Tech 5000mah 4S batteries
2 E-Flite 10.5 X 8 four bladed propellers
The spinners are from Tru-Turn
The pilot and radar operator are from Century Jet
Markings from Kirby Custom Graphics
All of the landing gear doors were vacuum formed from my own plugs on a Hobby-Vac vacuuming machine that I built myself.

The access panels where cut from Monokote silver self adhesive trim which was over sprayed with gloss enamel paint then rubbed down with 0000 steel wool. The whole plane was also subjected to the steel wool treatment around taped off areas to simulate panel lines. Lastly, the weathering was done using the dry brush method and two part epoxy paint. Total time investment approximate 150 hours

Once again I will flying the P-61 in the Fun Scale Expert category at the Columbus Scale Classic on 8/20 - 8/21.

Very nice.... Good luck. One problem I had with mine was since the booms were plastic, they started to crack at the firewall on each boom. You may not have that problem since you're going electric, but just something to be aware of.

Hello Miklos,

Thank you for the kind complement. The P-61 now has six flights on it and is pretty well dialed in. No issues with vibration which is a benefit of running balanced props and electric motors. I flew the "Lovely Lady" last weekend in some pretty gusty cross winds but it grooved along well. Needless to say, I am happy with its performance.

Flight times are over seven minutes on the two 5 Amp hour batteries with about 2/3 of the battery capacity used.

I myself would not pay that much. I think the retail price was on the high side based on all the plastic that was used especially the booms. I still have mine and will be changing out the power. I only bought it because it is one of my favorites. Just my opinion

That is a good enough opinion for me, I was on the fence on it due to the price, and know nothing about it. Going to pass, still holding out for a top flite B-25 arf
