This battery rookie was schooled by Steve. I support and stand behind all that Steve has built for me. He is a true professional who delivers a great product. By the way, can someone, "Steve", smile, tell me why the PowerBox System can not use A123 battery? I thought the chemistry was fairly similar. Thank. Chic White

Do any of these guys offer 1100 mAh A123 packs?
EDIT never mind, Andy does. To me, 2 each 2500 mAh receiver packs are just too much. 2x 1100 is just right.
Thanks

Matt, I have the 1100mAh cells and I only get about 900mAh when cycled. The down side of using 1100 is I have to charge more often (which really is not a big deal at 4c charge rate). The up side is they are lighter and smaller then the 2500s
I'm still deciding which to get for the Bandit with electric gear.
Thanks much

One of you guys, can you tell me if the new 2500Mah A123's are really 2500Mah or are they the 2300Mah and A123 just realised that the 2300 take 2500 off the charger when fully discharged, I have lots of 2300 and 1100 and they all seem to take more than the stated capacity when fully discharged.

I will test my set when they come in and report results. Now, I'm not sure to get the 1100s or the 2500 for the bandit. For this size turbine model I don't think the weight savings would have significant effect on flight characteristics.

RE: Hangtimes(Nobs batteries) vs electrodynamics vs factory built A123s
Another note via email from Andy Low.....I couldn't post it directly to RCU as it was HTML format.....
"A123 Systems has the production factory in China. It's true. And you know A123 clone is a lot in everywhere. Especially, there is diverse clones in China. But A123 Systems is made by A123 Material that is Nanophosphate technology. From this technology, high c-rate is worked well (over 20C). So, A123 clones are a lot but it's normally 10-15 C rate at this moment. Of course, someday someone can make the same or similar cells but we don't know about it yet.
26650 M1A is stopped production in A123 Systems. But A123 systems has still stock now, but it's almost sold out now.
So they are producing 26650 M1B.
And 18650 M1A is new batch production in this time. So the delivery time is a little delay now.
We can supply from the beginning of May.
So, we don't have problem for supply A123 Systems cells and haven't seen the same performance clones yet and you know A123 Systems material is patent material. So cannot gain or use easily. If did, it pirate and illegal.
FYI, 26650 M1A are the 2300 maH cells, 26650 M1B are the new 2500maH cells and 18650 M1A are the 1100maH cells"
I believe what Andy is saying is that the new 2500 maH cells he markets are real A123 Systems patent cells. The older 2300 maH cells are disappearing. A new batch of 1100maH 18650 is expected in May.
A123 Systems, now part of Wanxiang (see my earlier post referring to Andy's home site), is still producing larger commercial cells in the U.S., but it seems all new small cells are being made in China.
Give Andy a call if you want more detail. And Andy, I hope this is an accurate interpretation of your email.

RE: Hangtimes(Nobs batteries) vs electrodynamics vs factory built A123s
Dr.V......To plot graphs I use my Orbit Pocketlader with the USB adapter cord I got from Bob Wilcox at Jetcat......very cool and dispels some of the myths of A123 cells in regard to charging and discharging.

Thanks for posting. What charger is that? I like the graph. I'm assuming these are the 2500s?

Got a little over 2550 MAH from my packs.
Chatty.
