The slot at the back of the cowl is for picking the boat up. It comes in handy when you lanch yourself. Here are 2 more views. Will know how fast it is April 1st . We will be holding time trials onthe1-2-3 .

Jay, are you using threaded rod the full length of your rods? The carbon tube is more of a stiffener than anything else,

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
was originally using carbon rods with the 4-40 thread rod glued in the end. but the rods kept shattering. So i decided to try the 4-40 push rods. But their not any better. So tried another set of carbon rod and brok them aswell. the next thing im going to try is cables like the full sze boat.
The other issue im having is massive torque steer problems

Problem with carbon rods is that the carbon is thin strands all running in a length wise way. There is no binding around the tube so if you glue something inside any hard force would burst the carbon open. What we used to do is machine a brass sleeve that fits at least 30mm over the carbon tube threaded at the end to insert a stud which then threads into the ball link. Some guys also used 4mm spring steel rod (mostly used in spar reinforcing in rc planes) threaded at the end to M4 which then threads into the ball links.

Hi Cobus!!
Jay, here is what I use. The stainless all thread comes from Thomas Warburton. If you use brass or al on your rods a pipe cutter leaves a nice lip. I now use the ggood shrink tube with glue in it on the ends as it is easy I epoxy the full length of threaded rod into the carbon- no failures yet

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Hello Jay, from another Jay,
I have used Sullivan stainless steel cables for years ...from 3.5 OB's to gas OB's...soldered ball links to cable BUT feeling that
I needed more room at the transom, I cut out from aluminum sheeting steering arms that are mounted on the engine lug bolts so that the cable mounts to the steering arms OUTSIDE the hull on wooden hulls..(fiber glass full size bodies may offer some exit problems.) The cable is flexible so it is simple to exit out the side of the hull fastening to the steering arm. The only negative is that the aluminum arms can bend easily if you are hit by another boat! ...perhaps steel arms would be the way to go...I've never used them because I have no way to fashion them...Oh, and an added plus to me is that the cable w/ steering arms look more like their full sized brothers. Good luck with your rigging...there are other methods...someone else may respond also.

Did not get a speed on my boat At the records trials. What is the speed of a good gas tunnel? A good guess on my boat was 45mph.

Hi All......great to see you are all still enjoying 'Flying' your hulls....and continuing the development.
I am keeping an ear and eye out from the side lines for now.
As for the Carbon steering Rods - The big F1's need weight - so - I just use a full length 4mm S/S threaded rod - pass it all the way through the Carbon tube with nuts on either end. It 'never' breaks.
BigByrd - get a hold of the left hand thread tap and clean it out - I have restored quite a number by simply doing that.
If you would like to see what is keeping me otherwise occupied , take a look at my YouTube page..... http://www.youtube.com/user/formulaish ......... just loving it.

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Hi Dom!! Great to hear from you!! That 4mm rod is the way to go for sure-my carbon rods will wear out from rubbing on my cowl brace before they break. I am hoping now my rod ends are my weak link but it may be the servo gears as they are plastic.
did you ever get my email as I did not hear from Lisa-Marie?
got a couple AB mod props on the way to try out which should bring some more speed.
did some great acrobatics the other day- around the back marker and caught a gust of wind and did a 360 spin with a back flip and kept going like it was meant to happen lol, wish it was on film- would have made a good go pro clip.
happy boating,
Dion.

Hi Dion......I will follow up with Lisa-Marie......I do still have the unit put aside for you.
Those 360 flips are amazing......I to have done a few by fluke......'no damage' is always a good day !
Remember ! when testing the props - its not how fast the GPS indicates you are going.......its how fast the stop watch indicates you are going 'around the course'...good handling is good speed.
It would be great to see some footage.......
Regards
