RE: Composite ARF Tucano Build
The seat is just the standard CARF supplied ABS plastic seat, but as I said, I did some filling of the assembled item to neaten it up, and then the finish was airbrushed.

Great looking job. Two questions.
Tell us about the weathering job. Can you go into some detail on what you did?
What prop and spinner are you using? How does this combination perform?
Always looking for other options. Thanks, Mike

Hi...
The weathering job is done purely with airbrush... not much more I can say than that Idont think!
The prop is an Engel 24x14, the spinner is the standard CARF supplied spinner, airbrushed black. It performs really well. Whilst I have not done the performance comparisons myself, I believe it gives slightly better performance than the standard Beila prop. You will see some earlier discussions on this prop on this forum somewhere. In comparisons with a friend who has the standard Beila prop on his Tucano, we both believed the Engel was slightly quieter too, but I dont have hard data to back that up, only impressions.

In the meanwhile, I'm working on the cockpit. I rescued these pilots from my old Tucano. After some big surgery, they are ready to receive their new RAF colors. After that, just attach the panels with instruments and they are ready.

Hello.
I'm building a tucano but I have a little proble with the light.
Anyone could explain me how works the light system?
Wing tip: fixed red/green and flashing white?
Wing and landing gear: only fixed white with gear down?
Rudder: One or 2 flashing white?
Fuse : Any beacon? color?
Thanks for your help. I will not use the Carf lighting set I will make my optotronix mix of light and to do this I need your help.
Tahnks a lot.
Bets regards.

Fifou:
Newer models of Tucano are different from the older ones that we usually model. The only videos that could serve as a reference are only of the new models. This model has two lights in the front landing gear and the white light in the wing tips are not flashing. I will keep looking for more info.
From what I've been able to see in some older videos, in the older T-27 model the landing lights in the wings are always on, the tail lights are flashing and the white light in the wing tip also flash
This is the last video before the Fumaca squadron moved to the more powerful Super Tucanos.

I only know about lights on the RAF Tucanos but these work as follows:
Solid navigation lights on wings and rudder (red on left wingtip, green on right wingtip, white on bottom of rudder). These are on all the time the aircraft is manned.
Flashing white strobe lights on wing tips and rudder. These are turned on just before take off and turned off after landing.
Solid white landing lights - one on the leading edge of each wing. Turned on and off at the same time as the strobes.
Solid white taxi light - On the noseleg. This is turned on when taxying and off during shut down. It automatically turns off when the undercarriage is retracted.
Solid navigation lights on wings and rudder (red on left wingtip, green on right wingtip, white on bottom of rudder). These are on all the time the aircraft is manned.

Hi guys,
Dan at Details4Scale has just finished his light set for the Tucano. Myself and a friend have both ordered these from him as our Airfighter sets are absolute rubbish. Why? To get them programmed is a nightmare and then they end up working in a random fashion.
On our Tucano's (when working properly) we have the red/green wing tips and one white on the rudder all the time. Then at mid flap we get white flashing wing tips and rudder as well, with the 3 landing lights coming on with wheels down.
Cheers,
Jan

Today was maiden day......
Balancing the plane required 24 oz of lead and on top of that, I added 6 oz more in the nose in order to try to avoid the tendency the Tucano has of flying tail heavy. I was told to add 12 oz more after balancing but I decided to go just with the 6 oz and everything is fine.
Control throws were programmed as factory suggested, but we found that the airplane didn't need as much. We decided to lower most of them and the plane was easier and nicer to handle.
The two flights were very nice, specially the second one after dialing the plane better. The only thing I need to do know, is to make sure the spinner and propeller are balanced, since we notice vibration and the turbine installation bolts were getting loose.
Two videos of the first flight.....

Thanks Mike for the feedback.
In my old Tucano I never had a problem with vibrations. In my Marchetti no problems either.
Hopefully I will be able to fix it since it's very strange that the mounting bolts will get loose. This turbines are not supposed to produce any vibrations.......

I guess I'm the last one to know this... Patty Wagstaff has converted over to a Tucano for her airshow routine. I missed Oshkosh this year so I found out through the grapevine. Here's a video of her new routine:

I'm really considering the SPT10 for this plane. That video on the WJM thread really shows what the plane is capable of. The SPT5 is good but "scale". I think the -10 would really wake it up! Anybody performed the transplant? I wonder how much work it would be? It's about 3/4" wider and longer overall.
