Darn. I really wanted to scratch build it. Cause I have lots of wood. It was just given to me and I know I could build it less than $300 in wood and ultracote.

Here's my experience;
Plans $50
Cowl $60,
Wheel Pants $40
Canopy $50
Landing Gear $60 (Aluminum)
Wing Tube $40
Tail wheel $75
Wheels and axles $50
Covering $130
Paint $100
Hardware $100
Glue $25
Plus shop supplies.
Add your wood.
Don't get me wrong, I love to build. If you aretrying to save money, buyan ARF.

Some of your price valuations are pretty high, $100 in paint?, even your prices added up is much less than $1100 + shipping
Cowl, pants, canopy and covering are your bigger ticket items, but things like gear, wingtubes etc can be bought second hand for much less too, no need to plunk down full hobby shop retail on everything. Planes I've scratch built typically cost half what a kit built plane would have cost due to recycling hardware etc.
I think one could be built for more like $5-600
There was a guy on F-G that was giving away his designs of large scale plans until he got sick of the trolls and ARF fansboys bashing him there,, Could try and look him up and see if he'll email you a set of something you like. His user name is "Mode 1" and the thread is "Another free plan"
Good luck

these are laser cut
a home made one will be much heavier and be a 100 hours cutting wood and framing and jigging and covering.
you could try this one
