RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
Well...
I volunteered to build an AD F-16 for a friend so that, plus work, has slowed progress on the Mig. I hope to get back to it in a few weeks...
Of course, the C-ARF Flash should be coming in a few weeks too...
Regardless, any and all progress on the Mig WILL be published here!

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
I have just acquired this kit and will posting some questions here. The kit is great (albeit a lot of work) and it is a shame that it isn't available any more. The new ARF looks great but it is a LOT more expensive than the kit was.
Rhklenke was great to deal with and the model travelled the Atlantic unscathed.
Power will be a Jetcat P-100 (when it becomes available). I think this engine is made for the Mig as it is small and light, in the right power range, and has a nice clean install (due to the internal valves and small ECU) which will be very handy in the tight space available.
My first question is: does anyone have saved/scanned/photocopies of the Mig addendums that they might be able to post here or forward to me via email/post? The Mig page from the BVM site has been taken down and I would like to check that I am working with the latest info.

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
I've got most of the BVM Mig plan sheets, Mig 15 manual and several BVM Mig 15 addendums that I can mail to you. I am also looking for a set of BVM Mig 15 wing (built up) drawings if anyone has a set that they can copy for me. Need to cut out parts and build a new wing panel for the right side.

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
Hi - Just test flew mine. A few minor issues but will be great once sorted. Nose heavy and an ongoing fuel problem. See the link below.
Love BVM but after much buggering around with their UAT it is in the bin. Now running a new UAT - or CAT specifically out of GBRjet in the UK. About to fit and test.
I have the docs your after digitally and can email. PM me if you want them.

Hey Craig.
Looks really good. Especially impressed with the install. Nice to see that project finally finished.
Hope to see it in Feb.

Hey Roger,
Cheers. Test flight was a little dodgey with cg far to far forward and a BVM UAT giving me grief. All sorted with next flight planned in a fortnight. Hope to have the Hawk dine fir Feb. See you then. How's the f-100 coming on?
Cheers.

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
The model that was the subject of this thread is now in my hands and I am slowly continuing the build.
Is there anyone that can remember far back enough to give me some hints with the forward hatch? I am building as per the instructions using the snake inners and rods to secure the hatch. I understand how it all goes together and have fitted the front parts. How do you set up the rear so that you can withdraw the rods far enough? If I have done it right then the main former prevents the rods from being withdrawn fully.
There are 2 ways I see around this. The first is to only allow a small amount of movement enough to clear the forward snake parts (i.e. the ones glued to the fuse) and then slide the hatch off (leaving two long rods sticking out of the fuse). The second is to leave the rear part of the snakes unglued so that the rods can be manipulated through the holes in the former and then pulled back to release the hatch.
Or have I done something wrong?
Hopefully this makes sense to those that have built one!!

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
Hi mate - sounds like you have got it pretty much right. Not sur what you issue is? The steel rods travel all the way back and have a 90 degree bend to lock in behind one of the rear formers. You can then retract them back far enough to remove the front hatch. This is a typically great BVM design but the only issue is you have to remove the canopy frame and rear hatch to remove the front hatch. This is a bit of a pain in the butt if you just want access to the front hatch to refuel or charge at the field.
Good system though - I have just done the same of a 1/3 scale BAE hawk.
Just had a look and found these old pics from my build - hope they help.

tobba, that is perfect. I had got it pretty much right. I did put the z bends in the rod end so they were flat, so I will just need to bend them a bit to make them 'latch' behind the former. Your photos really help.
Your finished model looks awesome. That is the same scheme I'm thinking of doing mine in but I guarantee it won't look half a smart as yours.
I may well ask more questions during the rest of the build. Thanks very much.

I am sure it will look just as good. I saw this wing pattern on one full size and that was it for me on this scheme - really helps with visibility in the air.

RE: BVM AFS Mig 15 build thread?
I'm not going to post a step-by-step build of this as I guess there is limited interest as the kit isn't available any more.
However, I wanted to post a couple of photos of the speedbrakes to show just how good these BVM kits are. I am not a very good builder and these are pretty fiddly but by following the instructions you end up with this As an aside, when I went to fit the nose hatch, the instructions called to 'trim the supplied part to the marked line and check the fit'. The line was easily visible on the part and once trimmed, fitted almost perfectly with next to no adjustment required.
This has to be one of the nicest kits I've ever seen (jet or otherwise). I've already been back to the BVM website to look at their other kits to see if there is anything that I would like to get just in case anything else is discontinued. I might have to save up my pocket money a bit longer if I want an F100 though [&o] I'm still quite tempted [X(]

Looks good.
Yep the BVM stuff is quality. Makes for an enjoyable build from start to end eh!
Keen to send you a few other images and discuss other BVM kits. Drop me a PM and I will send you a few others images for reference by email.
Love the Mig speed doors - they look great in the air and are pretty effective.
Craig.

Does anyone have any tips for fitting the inlet duct into/onto the inlet lip of the old kit Mig.
My inlet isn't a slip on fit and I'm not sure if this is normal or not.
