I just bought a top speed 2 with an os .21 xm outboard on it and after searching forums I can't come to a conclusion on how to do this. Some say grease it others say oil it? I am new to these outboard engines and would like to know the proper way it needs to be done.

I grease the flex cable after a days running with blue marine grease but I also run an "oiler", a small container such as a large fuel filter that feeds oil while it's running.

grease -your choice in brand. I like a water-resistance grease like Evenrude grease. If the shaft /bushing is well worn oils will seep out just setting. Some change the grease fitting for a oil fitting and vice versa

An oiler only supplements the grease while it's running. Here's a pic of the setup on my VS1 that won District 16 last year.
