When I built mine I mounted the engine and adjusted the cowl's placement accordingly...used the prop back plate as my reference.........Sebo

Ditto what Sebo wrote. I did do some preliminary measuring though to see if the firewall needed moving. It did and I moved it forward about 3/8".

Well Cessna fans I got my engine running today and a couple bugs worked out on the airframe. Broke down and cut a slot in my cowling so I could get to the mixture screws and buttoned up the cowl after I ran my landing light leads. I used bathroom scales to weigh it and got 25-26 pounds which I was pleased with. Even if the scales are off some it looks good weight wise. Our field is getting drier every day now and next Saturday is a field prep day, ie, dethatch, sweep, and roll. Should be ready for the big birds then. Let's all have fun flying this year.

Test hop was today and a few pre-flight problems were fixed. A few taxi runs, and off she went. Straight flight out, right climbing turn, level her out and dropped a few clicks of down trim. Two clicks of right aileron and it was hands off the sticks. My landing was a little rough, slight cross wind, but plane survived with no damage except pride. Hope the pictures load now and a friend will post a video soon.

Great looking plane........glad all went well for you.....
I'm going to make a greater effort to make my next one lighter.....I came in at 38 pounds.......still took off in about a hundred feet.....flew rock solid.
Did not use the flaps on the maiden......still landed nice.......one bounce.
Congratulations........all that work was well worth it............Sebo
