4th picture proves that fuselage is sitting on its nose gear strut!!!!

Unscrewed the main upper cabin door frame, I don't like the way it's hinges from outside, it will be rehinged again properly.

Had to add balsa strip fillets to even out and give back root airfoil's top curve on the fuselage, it was all sanded into wavy pattern amd looked awful plus lose lift also, now its all fixed.

Right top stringer of the fuselage between main wing and stabilizer also needed to be looked, it had one joint loosen up but other 2 were not even joined right on the formers, so had to make couple corner notches on the former corners to reglue and attach this stringer perfectly, it's also done now.

Presently right wing is attached to the fuselage with one screw holding it, I'm surprised to see the amount of gap there is between fuselage and wing!, it's more then 1/8" from front to the back.

Now I'm going to add a fillet here shaped as root airfoil but my question is, with this much gap where as these both should be butt joined together at this attachment point, can these Cubs fly???

I installed the new YDA-56 engine in my 1/3 Cub. She is now ready for another flying season.

Oh my goodness!  Remember to put the wings on before you try to fly that thing!

Hey, are we going to get to see a video of how it performs with that engine?  I'd like to see that.

Take care,
David

Anthony,
That is a very nice looking 1/3 scale cub. What engine was installed on the plane before you replaced it with the YDA-56?

It had a YDA-56 on it before. It is a perfect power combination for this plane. The engine is no longer made so spare parts are hard to come by.

Later!!

You are making some good progress. The airplane reminds me a little of a SIG kit but I'm still not sure what it is.

Joey B I am building a BUSA I/4 Cub too and am almost ready for covering , I am using the Robart gear as well.. I am using the DU-Bro 1/3 scale Cub wheels .. I have an OS Gemini Twin 160 on .. It should have close to the same power as the FS 120 .. I have the FS 120 in my Sig 1/4 Cub and it is a very good match .. I still have a few finishing touches like the tail wires and radio to install but it is getting close ..But flying season is here .. I am thinking about using a set of Hanger 9 wing struts from their 1/4 Scale J3 .. They will need a little modifying but I like how they mount and look...They will need to be lengthened a bit . I also made a little hatch on top of the cabin so that I will be able to put my wing bolts on from the outside...

bikerbc Ibuilt the struts that came with kit but i like the idea you have on the wing mounting bolts it is going to be a pain putting them in from inside the cabin

It is a pain putting them on from the inside .. I have a Sig Cub and its wings are held on from the outside , I like that way better.. I have two BUSA1/3 Scale Cub and there wings are held on from the inside too and I find I seldom want to fly them because of the setup... So I thought how could I make this easier... I have the Hanger 9 PA19 and the Hanger9 Taylor craft and bolt of those planes have their wings held on with one wing bolt on each side and it works fine.. There isn't much force pulling out on a wing .. The back bolt is easy to gain access to from the outside .. You can just open up a strip about 1.25" wide and make a small hatch held on with a couple of screws...If you decide you want to have two wing bolts you can still put the front ones in from inside the cabin.. How much Dihedral did you use ? 1.25 per side ? Do you have any wash out ?

I have a few engines that have been out of production for several years, so replacement parts are also very hard to come by. Irecently purchased a O.S. FS-48 from a member on RCU. The engine has been out of production for quite some time. Iam surprised that Tower Hobbies still carries spare parts for this old engine. Some of the parts from a O.S. FS-52 are interchangeable. Iam considering installing the engine on a Sig 1/5 scale anniversary cub.

I am not familiar with the engine but it will probably fly the plane in a scale like manner . It is definatly on the low end of the power scale ..If it were mine I would be looking for something a little bigger...I might be worth a try.. Cubs can get away with low power but I wouldn't fly it on a windy day ..

Things seems to be getting slower but I'm trying to keep up the pace.

Last night I pulled out can of Neato and sprayed on the black areas in the forward fuselage as shown in last segment of pictures.
I was hoping all that black stuff is old glow fuel or gas that is soaked in the wood and grime/dirt accumulated from past many years of use, sure enough I was right. Today I vacuumed off the dried out powder and it pulled out a lot for crap from the wood and made areas a lot cleaner and dirt free. This is amazing stuff to remove old glow fuel or gas soaked wood to get rid of grime n dirt. Now I can recover over these ares with out worrying about anything.
