Same here was nagging constantly for ages haha, the Nikko was ok but no Tamiya.
Most of the Tamiya ones were kits I think.
You had a Grass Hopper didnt you?

I agree, it's fun building and modifying.
We did a lot to our 4x4 cars too.
Seen this bloke quite regular with his RC Planes, good fun to watch, pretty noisey and fast they are.
Wouldn't mind having a go of that.

Forgot about the radio controlled helicopter, bought one because my mate had one, not touched that for a few years now.
Radio controlled boat sounds fun but nowhere around here to use it.
have seen RC bikes but only on videos.

There is a small lake type thing with ducks on it but that's not local enough.
There was a boating lake but then again not close enough.

these wheels and tiers are old super hpi rs4 there 1/8th scale on road

these are kyosho rally block tires and wheels

these are nikko 1/10th wheels and slick tires these are super grippy

these are 1/10th touring car wheels dont remember the make and can you guess what tires ??

these are kyosho wheels can you guess what tires these are ???

im not sure what wheels to use
but i think i might stick with these wheels with the bycmo tires as i think it fits well with the touring car look

Those standard bycmo tyres are crap, the directional ones are good though Dus mate
Good pics of the Tamiya for sure.
How do the 1/8th scale tyres measure up?
Looks like it could be good to try those out on ours.

Hi Ian
the standard bycmo tires are good for drifting as there's no grip at all lol
The 1/8th are a bit on the large size for the front they catch on the chassis only on full lock

Have still got a set unused of the better grip bycmo tyres here.
Maybe more.
I noticed fitting certain wheels that they rubbed on the tie rods.
Due to offset Dus.
Going to try and do something over the weekend be it the bycmo or the HSP cars.
Think we only have enough pins to run 1 bycmo, need to get some.
Lost them somewhere.

Unhappy

Hi, I'm new to rc cars and purchased one on ebay not long after paying found this forum then realised it was the subaru bycmo car I had just purchased. right…here it go's.

It came with the batt pack charger etc but the seller said it needed a new esc and was even kind enough to supply me with a link to one on evil bay to buy (A Kyosho one). I got the car and esc today and I'm really confused, the car drove but was very jerky then stopped moving all together (The seller also did state the batt drained after 5 or so mins use so i needed to buy a new one, its the standard yellow 1600mah jetpack batt) so I decided to go ahead and swap the esc which was pretty simple I lablled the wires so I knew where they came from and installed the new esc. But now the car is doing one of three things.

1. I turn on the car and control and nothing responds at all no servo movement no motor movement not even any noise from the car or any of its components.
2. I change the black and red wires over on the esc and motor and the motor spins non stop from the moment i connect the battery until I disconnect it. The off switch won't stop it from going :/ .
3. I put the wires back and it works momentarily, but the esc gets jammed when I try to drive and I have to turn of the car and manually place it back in neutral. When this happens reverse does not work unless i do it manually too. Some times reverse does not work at all.

I know the motor is fine due to it spinning at full speed as stated above and i know the transmission is fine because when it does momentarily drive it drives fine but just don't stop LOL. Also the "cog"? on the motor is not the standard one that came with the car it is attached buy a alan key screw and is solid metal all the teeth on both "cogs"? the one on the motor and transmission are intact too. I managed to get it working fine for 3-4mins and as i went to drive forward again it stopped responding again and hasn't worked since other than servo movement. The control is on the correct frequency and all 8AA batts are fully charged and brand new (purchased them & the charger specifically for the control)

Can somebody please shed some light on what the cause may be please?

Let me know if you need any more pics, I turned it on just now and its driving with the left right and steering with backwards and forwards, and reverse won't work at all unless the cog is off the motor :/

Hi frost it sounds like you have swopped the servo plugs round channel 1 on the receiver should be left and right on the transmitter and channel 2 should be forward and reverse best thing to do is unplug the servos lift the car off the surface then plug a servo in then try left stick channel 2 and right stick channel 1 that should sort out the sticks
from the photos your car has a old msc (mechanical speed control) not esc (electronic speed control)
But that is something you can change when you ready and up and running if you want to

Hi dust75, I managed to swap them over before I saw your reply and it is working right with the control now, the battery really does drain quick it lasted literally 2mins and drained out completely, there is still a few problems though, the throttle keeps sticking every now and then and the car randomly turns left or right at it's own free will :/ also when off the ground everything sounds normal but when on the ground if I accelerate it makes a odd sound like the big cog is slipping and not gripping onto the one on the motor properly. Is this something I can replace easily? And is it difficult to swap over to a esc from what I have now? I've ordered the 12mm hex adapters and am currently searching around for the oil filled shock upgrades but can only find the magazines sealed on evil bay, the red shocks are available but not the full set up but hopefully a rolling chassis or something will go up for sale soon. Thank you for all your advice this forum has helped me a lot just reading through the pages has given me a lot of knowledge on the car.

I've had a look on ebay and esc's come for brushed or brushless motors do you know what mine is from the pics? Also would i be better off upgrading the esc & possibly motor first or getting a decent battery? and how many teeth my big cog has as there are many to choose from.

Thanks

Hi frost having a look at your photos the food news is your motor is a standard 540 motor
its what the likes of tamiya Kyosho hpi ect use in there 1/10th cars trucks and buggies
As for batteries esc motor upgrades it all depends on your finances
as it's a standard size motor you can use a brushed esc to start
if you want a battery would help
as you could eliminate a power problem
if your battery is not holding its full charge
it could be one of the problems your having

Now the bad news
the black gear on your car is the upgraded gear from bycmo
there are no other gears that I know that will fit or work
best thing to do is count the teeth on your large gear and look for one thats similar

Hi frost it could be something as simple as your battery is so far gone
that there's just not enough power to do anything
and when the weight is off the wheels and off the gears it has just enough power to move the wheels
replacing the esc is your choice it means you also remove the servo connected to the msc and the heat sink
which lowers the over all weight
depending how far you want to take your bycmo with upgrades you could replace the old radio gear with a 2.4g it means that you can take your car anywhere without worrying about interference also means that if you change the bodyshell there's no need to drill out for the ariel

Hi Dusty75, I've ordered a Tamiya TEU104BK (will this need to be set up or is it as easy as plug and play?) & a Overlander 3300mah 7.2v NiHM Battery Pack for the car, I think going with a ESC rather than a MSC is the better option as its less weight as you said and its one piece of hardware so if it ever go's I don't have to guess whats broken and possibly buy parts I don't need.

Once I receive all the parts through the post I will be fitting a new ESC, 12mm Hex extensions (Metal set) New body posts as the ones on it are cut down and don't have a stopper to stop the shell from dropping down, New body clips (purchased a set) New wheels (if i decide on a new shell by then if not i won't fit them just yet) and the new battery. I think the next step would be the Radio Gear like you mentioned. Would that mean I would have to change the receiver along with the control or could i get new crystals at the new frequency? Yeah the aerial is a bit of a pain to get through on the case it came with tbh so that would be ideal. It came with a 3door black scooby shell btw not the 5door standard one from the magazine. It looks like its been used on multiple chassis' as it has 4 different sets of wholes and 2 arial holes on the roof.

Oh and I fixed the problem with the odd noise coming from the motor area the motor "spur"? was to far from the big one, I had to loosen the top screw and pull it bait closer to the big one and it has stopped making the grinding noise.

I brought one that was completed it is toy grade qaulity but I stuck a traxxas magnum gear box($25 ebay)on it and that transformed it into a whole different beast with a 60a brushless setup on it and tamiya shocks.

Do you have any pics of it Next Editon? How did you mount it on was it a straight swap? And do you know the model number of it there's 4 different ones that come up from the search on eBay, it's something I'm prepared to upgrade after I get a new transmitter & receiver, waiting until all the other parts I've ordered come and I'm going to order a set I found earlier on today.
