I would like to get some input about a good electric set-up for this plane. 89" wingspan, 16lb plane. It is typically flown with a 26cc - 32cc gas engine.
I have flown Nitro for 30+ years, and now considering Electric for this big one.
Help me out Guys!

I'll be interested in seeing what you get for responses as I'm building one of these right now.

i'm going gas for mine.... I briefly thought about electric but realized that the cost was going to get up there, especially in the way of batteries for a plane this large.

I do not have that plane, but I do have an RC Guys Super Decathlon 96" wingspan. Flew it with a US 41 engine for 3 years. Flew scale like. Converted last fall to an Eflite 160, 110HV ESC , 20x10 APC prop, and 10s lipo. Whole new plane. Cruises at 1/3 throttle. 18 lbs. Loops, stall turns, knife edge 60% throttle. Absolute blast to fly now. 10s battery is actually 2 each of a 3s 5000 30c and one each of a 4s 5000 30c turnigy packs wired in series for 10s. I already had these batteries on hand for other planes. 8 minute flight time with 40% left in the batteries. Plane is actually over powered by some standards, but that is what the throttle stick is for.

I get that cheaper isn't always better and I usually spring for the pricier option when I see there is a clear benefit. I am just pointing out the struggle going through my mind currently and trying to find some answers of my own.

The turniy packs are a bit cheaper.. I was using the first references that came up searching for Lipos through google so you could save some money there by searching harder for batteries... figure $150 total for turnigy packs...

Mattnew.... I found that same data to be the case. Disheartening for sure! Well, I have all the bits and pieces for staying with my original plan for gas. Just need to get my engine ordered from AGAPE RACING & RC.

Regarding converting the Dynaflite Decathlon to electric, can someone who has done this conversion tell me how they accomplished access to the batteries? I realize that a hatch can be made just aft of where the cowl ends, but then what happens to the wind shield which seems to come up to very close where the cowl begins. Photos of this would be extremely helpful. Thanks
