Here is my current work in progress - CMP Zero powered by an ASP 400 five cylinder radial, Microsens on board glow system with balancer and Kelco Exhaust ring. This project is moving forward but progress is slow. Someday, I may even finish it. One thing for sure, I will do some serious pre-oiling of the engine before it runs for the first time.

Hey, 77chickenhawk, how about sharing the control throws you are using on your Zero. CMP did not give any suggested control throws in their instructions.

Hey I got a question for you guys. Did anyone actually use the supplied motor mount box with all the offset in it? Mine seems to be in good shape. They actually used some decent plywood here as well as in my gear mounts.... I'm a little surprised after hearing everybody else talk about theirs. Mine actually has triangle hardwood stock installed as well.

I hope to use the supplied motor box with my DLE-55. There is another thread on another site that shows a DLE-55 mounted to the box. The guy had to make some custom 1.25" stand offs but that did give him the needed 8". If anyone is interesred in seeing how he did this send me a pm or e-mail and I will forward the link to you

It's been so long since I flew my CMP, the first one I had. I can't remember with the throws were. I know I had them set up on high and low rate switches. And I would usually flip the high rate rudder and elevator on when I came in for a landing. I remember that throws weren't very much once it was all said and done but I can't recall what they were. Sorry bud. I thought that the PDF build instructions on the website shows the throws. I recall setting the high rates at what they suggested and remembering that the plane was way too touchy. All my planes I set up the engine thrust at zero.

I would also like to know the throws if possible. This is my second CMP Zero and this one did mot come with amy instructions. I remember enough to get the plane built but grtting the correct throws on the ailerons, elevator, and rudder would really help. Thanks

I just did a search and for this on another thread about the CMP 80" Zero. He talks about how he has is throws and expo setup on his radio.

"here is what I have found from these forums re throws: Ail 1/2" up/down low rate , as much as you can get on high. El. 3/4 " up/down low rate , 1 1/4 high , Rud 3/4 " low , as much as you can get on high , Flaps as much as you can get or 45 deg full down , 15 to 20 deg for half down . I am using 40 expo on low EL and 70 on High , same on Ail. "

I did and it handles my brison 3.2 real well. Quite sturdy. I also have the lead and batteries inside the box. Great set up and built like a tank.

Casey. Your Zero looks great!

Looks like you may be in the air with yours before I finish up with mine, too.

Any concern over putting a zero in the air out there in Hawaii? [X(]

The trade winds can make for fun and interesting flying. Heavy large planes work better, but only so much. You learn to deal with it( and crash) if you want to fly.
My wife and I lived in Hawaii for 8 years before moving back to California. Had all our kids there and loved it. We've been stateside for 3 years now and are in the process of moving back to the island.(I just found a house last trip)
I guess we just miss paradise. My wife is opening a preschool, and were looking for the commercial property as well. We hope to be totally relocated within 3 months.

That's why I've had no time to do anything other than blot some paint around lol. If all works out, I will have time to get the motor mounted this week. I'm going to try to use four six cell 6000MaH lipo's, in parallel to balance.

Hey would any of you gents happen to have even a basic set of three views that shows panel lines (that you could post)?
My thoughts are.... I could paint the panel lines on the wing and tail surfaces, and then weather accordingly. I just don't happen to have any books on zeros, and in my initial searches the web, I haven't found any three views that show panel lines.

I would be using that engine but I already have the DLE-55 with the side exhaust.

I do have 3 views for ya! let me put it together and shoot it to you. What I do is enlarge 3 views to whatever scale that I am building and start tracing

That would be great as the ones I've found leave a little to be desired. I've also ordered a spinner from Yellow Aircraft. I've heard they are good and heavy, which should help.

Here's the set I used.

Also do a google search of A6M5 zero images and there is a wealth of nice photos from museums around the world and you can tweak the 3-views from those as well as get a good look at the details that stand out as important to you.

Casey, i used the box, after covering it with 3/4oz glass and filling it with foam, to hange a g-62 off of and it has held up great! my century jet retracts have taken to only one coming down at landing time lately so the last three flights have been with the gear up on this 22# behemoth. That means the first thing to contact the ground is the muffler exits so that box has gotten quite a workout.
