SAM One Day Pattern Contest May 18
There will be a one day contest at the Sacramento Area Modelers field on May 18. This will be a very simple contest, no frills, just flying and good times. I will be the CD and Ron Davies has once again 'volunteered' to be the Asst CD.
The sun can become a big problem after about 2PM since the SAM field faces west. So, we will be starting early Saturday morning. Consequentially, there will be no practice flying before the contest starts so we can start the rounds at 8AM, registration will be open by 7AM. Or, you can email your entry information to me at [email protected] . The attached flyer has all the required information fields at the bottom. If you do this, when you arrive, sign the entry forms, pay your fee and you will be ready to go. I will be also emailing a pilots briefing document to all the people that preregister, and the pilots briefing will also be handed out when you arrive.
Entry fee is $20 except for Sportsman which will $5. Any AMA legal plane is allowed in Sportsman, we have a couple club members are 'thinking' about it and will use their sport planes.
We used the same format last year and it was well received. That contest was an experiment to some extent. We tried a 'generic' contest approach to test how simple we can make it and still provide a good competitive contest. Based on feedback from the contestants last year, it was a success. Any questions or comments, let us know.
thanks

Late breaking news!!! I have been notified 'Fingers' Capone will be serving his famous Frankie Dogs with accessories for a nominal fee. The contest flyer says no food being supplied but Frank just can't stand that so is offering his services for those interested. thanks Frank
Long range weather is looking pretty good with a little cooling rolling in late in the week. This is a great time of year here in NorCal with pleasant temps so hopefully the forecast is accurate.

You may need to make reservations for the Frankie Dogs. You know they are in limited supply so early reservations may help you out..... ;-)

Ok, Woodie, tell the truth. It means temp in the high 90s to a 100, winds 30 knots gusting to 50, right? ... [8D]

Just return home from the one day contest, 20 contestants, a great success. Don had us started flying right at 8, & we finished at around 2:30. Weather was great, slight breeze in the morning with stronger cross wind in the early afternoon.
Thanks to CD Don for organizing the contest, his wife Georgette for keeping scores, & Frank "Sparky" Carpone for the delicious hot dogs.
I'll post some pictures later on tonight after a short siesta, & I think Don will post the scores.

thanks Adrian
We were very fortunate today, the weather was fantastic, we had 20 contestants, not bad for a local one day get together. Many thanks to all that made the effort to come to SAM for our annual one day no frills contest. Our goal is to get started by 8AM and finish 4 rounds by 2:30 due to afternoon sun problems. We got started right on time, everyone was ready, and we made it all the way thru by about 2:30. It really helps when everyone is cooperative with judging assignments and being ready to go when it is their turn to fly.
We had 5 Sportsman, 2 Intermediate, 1 Advanced, 8 Masters and 4 FAI pilots. It was great to see the turnout in Sportsman. A couple classes were very close and I will be posting scores later on. I have to unload the truck to get the score sheets but will get them posted when I get unloaded.
Also, thanks to Ron Davies, my assistant CD, Frank Capone for hosting the 2nd Annual Dave Wick Memorial BBQ and a special thanks to my wife Georgette for computer scoring duties. We did have an issue with the computer and Derek Koopowitz came to our rescue. thanks Derek.
Once again, thanks to all for attending, you guys made it a great contest.

I had a great time at the contest Saturday and another great time today flying at Hollister with the Jon's and Dale! Many thanks to Don Atwood for setting the pattern on how to do a 1-dayer. It couldn't have gone better. Thanks to Frank for the great dogs on Saturday. And thanks to any and all involved. It was a very enjoyable weekend! Looking forward to Oakdale in a couple of weeks!

Don - Thanks for an excellent 1-day pattern contest! Everything ran smoothly and we all got 4 rounds in by a very reasonable time.
Thanks again and hope to see you all in Oakdale.
