I am not. David Payne did the flying for this one. And I think we will both agree did a pretty outstanding job. I test flew Bill Brundle's last Sunday night before he headed down to Joe Nall. The plane is just a sweet heart in every respect. If you like Corsairs, this one's for you!!!

Thank you for your reply. My experience has repeatedly demonstrated that Corsairs have a delightful style of flight. They feel right. Those huge flaps cause no ballooning on final and I have mine set for 40 degrees. The full size go 50 degrees max! I still have my original Hangar 9 corsair from 7 years ago powered by the Saito 90r3. It now has over 400 flights! My I ask which prop was used for the flights? -Tom

We sized it for the DA50 engine as well and it fits without much sticking out of the cowl. Should bolt up easily which would mean the DLE-55 should fit without issue. Both engines should power the model very well.

Input on the ESM/TF/Hanger9 (Ford vs Chevy argument) they all have their place and I have them all but you get what you pay for. I think this effort will push the competition for sure. I appreciate Hanger 9 commitment of scale warbirds with these options designed in, and available from Hanger 9. great Job Horizon. Love to see more like it in this size, P-40b please.

Unfortunately the cowl on this Corsair is just a tad too small for the Saito FG-84.

Is the issue with the new gasoline 3 cylinder, not fitting because of the slightly dif cylinders? Or is it due to the mid sized spark plugs?(c-6) ..... Slicking out ?

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
Hi.
The FG84R3 has the same dimensions as the FG450R3 as far as the cylinder layout / diameter ( that is 250mm).I have a 450 waiting to go in my T/F Giant Corsair ( when it gets finished !! ).Fibreglass Specialities Corsair cowl may also be an option here to replace the H9 cowl ?..........I know my R450 fits in this cowl from F/S........
I have to say that this H9 Corsair has put the stop on that idea............got to get one of these.
If you look at the ZP62 Petrol engine ( also recommended for the 60cc H9 Corsair ) dimensions and scale it up to true size "on your screen"............you should see that from the centre line of the engine to the top of the cylinder head ( not including the spark plug )...........it is approx 125mmm high.Assuming that the engine is mounted on the C/L of the fuzz, also that the cylinder does not hang out of the bottom of the cowl, that would equate to a cowl diameter of 250mm....just about correct for a R450 or R84 ??? ( plugs on the R84 are angled back,so that may help with plug-cap clearence ?)
Until we get a definative answer from somebody at H9 ( John, can you get this dimension for the thread ?? ) on the INTERNAL cowl diameter, those of us who would like to use the R84,will have to guess !!!
The evo 7-77 has a dia of 223mm..........so pretty close,BUT as said in a post or two back the H9 60cc cowl is a "tad" too small...............hence the need for the correct dimension.
I can see evolution not being able to produce enough 7-77's maybe !!!
I can see this thread being as good as the H9 P-47 that John started...............come on John, you have to do this one, every body want's you to do it !!!

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
I had the 450R3 in a Byron Corsair that I sold and had to cut the cowl for the two side cylinders but I moved it down just a little so I wouldn't have to cut for the top cylinder, they weren't huge holes but just enough to clear the valve covers, so if anyone has a Byron Corsair (Iron Bay) cowl they could measure then we would know if the 450 will fit on the Hanger 9, unless someone already knows this?? I bet that new OS GT60 would be a good choice too, not enough nose weight maybe?? My choice right now would be the Saito gas 57CC twin, that one we know fits I hope??
Sorry for the questions and hope I didn't miss the answers anywhere on here, maybe someone could list the motors that will fit that know for sure??
I'm saving in my piggy bank for this Corsair, sure do miss my Byron Corsair so I need another giant scale Corsair, can't wait.

I don't fault Top Flite. They put out a good flying plane at a 50% less listed price ($729 vs. H9's $1100 ''$1000+ Wheels & Truturn Hub''). As someone mentioned Top Flight admits it is a stand off scale product, and if the modeler so desires can easily modify/detail further to his satisfaction.
Variety and competition is always good .

I agree with you, the more options the merrier. TF has them beat with price, and also by the weight. and by a long shot it seems...

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
Hi All.
Just to continue the "cowl-size" question..........will it or won't it on the F84 R3 / 450 R3 type radial. The FS cowl is quite large, may be too large for the H9"C",but the fuzz dia on the H9 C is not known as yet..??
The following photos are of the FS Corsair cowl ( as moulded from the T/F Giant Kit version by FS )..........The outside max dia is approx 270mm as seen in the photo.
The 450 R3 fits in well, and I would also assume that even the F84 R3 with plug caps may still fit under this cowl with out too many problems........however a major difference if one could use the F84 is possibly the dimension of the f/wall to prop driver distance.
Evo 7-77 is 140mm versus the Saito at 170mm on the F84...........quite a big difference !!! ( stand off's used on the 7-77 mounting ??? )........the 450 being 200mm ( massive !! )
I think all will become clearer as Horizon get to pdf the manual on the web-site,then we can all see what will or won't fit in.

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
If the evo 7-77 is bigger than the 450 3 cyl or 84cc gas saito....
Then, I would ASSume that the saito 3cyl 450 would be good to go!
By the way............
I just ran my Saito 325 5cyl radial for the 1st time (new) and although, it was very
slimy (due to the over rich setup for new engine) it was really nice to hear....
glow or gas, I can't wait to get the engine in a airframe, and fly it..

Hi.
I think you may have miss-read the posts above.................The evo 7-77 is SMALLER at 223mm dia.........the Saito F84 / R450 is 250mm dia...........not by too much, but enough for all the Saito users to question the fit in the cowl on this H9 Corsair.
So come on Horizon put us in the clear..............inside dia of cowl and outside dia of fuzz at cowl mounting point ( somebody at HH must know this !!????........John,HELP !!! )...........unless you can pdf the manual to the site !!!
Thanks in advance
Great thread already !!!!!
This is soooooooooooo going to be good

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
os anyone thinking about the left offset of the engine to account for right thurst?
this will also have an impact as to whether or not the larger engine will fit.

Hi Tony.
A very valid point !!! Just got to wait and see what the manual / pictures show ..? mmmmmmmmmm ? []
Would be nice if there is not too much of an offset..?

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
From my experince with my 30+# TF corsair (lots of extra bits), it's still a floater on landing. G62 IMHO is marginal power for a 30+ lb warbird, at least at 2700'. Would suggest a DA or 3W of 50-60cc.
And as far as the price goes.. time you get this bird ready to fly you are going to have 2-2.5k invested.. 12-15% premium for the H9 bird over Top Flite seems reasonable to me.

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
Guys
We are at Nall this week and when I get the chance
I will test the cowl fit over the Display Saito radial,
I do not believe the engine will fit, but will let you
know for sure.
For reference there is 2.5 degrees of right thrust built into the firewall
We have two G62 powered Corsairs at Joe Nall flying on 22x 10
Falcon and Mejzlik carbon props and the performance is fantastic and for me is
the perfect combination
Keep in mind that with the G62 you need 14-17 oz of additional nose weight
to achieve the recommended C/G so a lighter engine just means more
lead to balance
