Atchafalaya Basin RC Pattern Championships (Baton Rouge, LA) May 18-19
May 18-19 the Atchafalaya Basin RC Club (formerly Dixie) will be hosting our annual pattern contest. We've been doing it since the Wright Flyer was invented, or thereabouts This year, Nick Musco is again boiling the crawfish which are being obtained from Troy Landry of TV gator hunting fame. Friday night, for those that join us early, we will be having fried catfish. Both are part of your registration, which is $35.00. Hamburgers and drinks will be available both days. We are flying Sportsman (anything that flies is good) Intermediate, Advanced, Masters and FAI (P and F) with trophies awarded through third place. Pilots meeting will be 9:30 Saturday morning and the field will be open for practice all week. We have space for campers, but no hookups. We can stretch a water hose to you, though. We will have power, if you bring the generator Looking forward to seeing you!

I just want to add that we had a GREAT work day this past weekend trying to give our facility a little bit of a facelift by hauling off our junk lawnmowers and sheeting the exterior of our clubhouse. The facilities are looking better than they have in years! Also, we got our weather order in early, giving us a forecast of partly cloudy skies, temps in the mid-80's, and 10 MPH winds out the south. It doesn't get any better than that!!!

I found out tonight that Mike Hare will be here. Mike takes AWESOME aerial photos, and would be able to take photos of your airplane in flight, if you ask him to do so. Framing quality stuff, great to have.

Several folks have asked for GPS coordinates, so I used Google Earth, which yielded theswe coordinates: 30deg 23min 0.91sec North, 91deg 30min 26.19sec West for the Atchafalaya Basin RC field. Take exit 135 SOUTH from I-10, go 1.2 miles. We are behind the log cabin, on the left. Address is 16655 Ramah Road. You can fly any day this week.
I got confirmation for the fish fry Friday night, will be planning to feed twenty (catered) so there will be plenty of catfish, french fries and cole slaw. Saturday night, there will be two sacks of boiled crawfish (eighty pounds) with corn on the cob and potatoes. Both Saturday and Sunday, there will be hamburgers and chips and cold drinks available, but the Friday and Saturday night dinners are included with registration.
The weather forecast is less than 20% chance of rain, with temperatures around 85 degrees. The trophies are on my coffee table, we are ready to rock! Come see us!

Photos from Friday practice. From what I understand we should have a heck of an FAI contest this time including Brett Wickizer, Earl Haury, AC Glenn, Paul Villarubia, and even No-show Raiko Potter is rumored to be coming! In addition Clint Higdon is here and Mike Hare should be coming with Raiko. Al Glenn and Bryan Hebert are here, both former US Team Managers, NSCRA Secretary Scott McHarg is also here, plus many others. If you're on the fence about coming, drop what you're doing and get down here, it's going to be a great weekend!

Day one is in the books. We had a great day, but one unfortunate mishap where Don Ramsey had a mid-air. I only listed Don's name because it was an ultra-rare solo mid-air.

Thanks, everybody that came to the contest, for supporting our club. Special people include Barney Miller's girlfriend Chris, who cooked the hamburgers and served concessions; Stacey Retherford who ran scores and filled in everywhere she could; Matt Frederick for running the scoring, and Bryan Hebert for handling the judging.
Andy's Hobby Towne of Baton Rouge sponsored the trophies, in large measure, and we appreciate them as well. Andy's has sponsored many, many events in our area over the years, and has been a faithful source to modelers here. Thanks, Andy!
We flew three days with no rain, but some wind; killed one buzzard with an aircraft, ate one hundred pounds of crawfish and almost thirty pounds of catfish in addition to seventy hamburgers over the three days. It was a great weekend, and I'm already planning to make next year even better. See everybody in Jetero next, or Muncie!
