David,
The Stinson is a nice plane. I have been eyeing the Hostetler Stinson plans for several years. It is one of the planes on my bucket list. Once I build the 1/3 Spacewalker I will mostly be building from plans. I just bought a set of 1/3 Nieuport N-11 plans. That will most likely go on the board after the SW.
Later!!
Anthony

Hey Waco,

In your experience, will polycrylic adhere koverall to a surface primed with Rustoleum? When I try to use dope or Stix-it on my William Wallace gear to stick the edges of the Koverall, it bubbles up the primer.
I guess it'sbecause they're both laquer based? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Things have been really busy at work, and then when I'm home it's been windy, so I haven't been able to spray lacquer.  How ever today it calmed down just enough that I could finish the wings.  Everything has been sealed except for the fuse.

I'm hoping things get back to normal at work, although the money is nice.  I suppose besides spraying the fuse, I need to apply decals.  I have yet to finish up the cowl, but other than that and the windows, I could start....  Final Assembly!

Feels good!  And, by the way, where is everybody?  Things seem awfully quite!  You out flying, working.... hellooooooo!

The wind here where I live (NH) has also been very much a nuisance. If it's not windy it's cold, if its sunny and warm the wind prevents any flying. Been a wierd start to our flying season here.

Nice to hear that your almost ready for final assembly, don't forget your followers like pictures...

It has been either windy or rainy or both here.  VJ, I agree it has been a weird start to the flying season.  Went to Joe Nall this week and had an awesome time.   Oh, the cub!  I am trying to do the rib stitching at this time.  I have been working on the flying field and also building a off road coarse for surface vehicles.

LOL, I knew someone would say something about photos!  I figured that since I had one wing setting out there, I would forgo the photo shoot.  Next time, okay, I promise.

The "lacquering" is complete! I know everyone wants to see pictures, words are never good enough, so here is how the wing and windshield fairings came out. I'm satisfied, not perfect, but I'm satisfied. The wing however was a nice snug fit, almost too snug. But I'm satisfied. Did I say that already?

Well, the NC number is on the wing. Not too bad! I really like how these things conform to the rib stitching and pinking. The rest of the decals will depend on how work goes and the yard work which I normally do on Monday evenings.

Take care,
David

P.S. Stan, fly it???? Really? Fly it????? Hey, back off! I'll fly it when I'm good and ready!!! (Just joking with ya bro!)

Sorry didn't see the post earlier.

I never use Rustoleum primer, always Dupli-Color primer. I have never had a compatibility issue with the Dupli-Color primer.

A little more.completed. The port side didn't come out as well, I found out the thinner longer stretches are just a tad bit more difficult. Now I think I know the secret.
Next I guess will be putting the tail feathers on, gluing hinges and then the decals. So close!!!

So, I got the windows installed today, preliminarily connected the struts (I'm going to borrow an incidence meter and check the wings out before locking them down), then set up the whole thing and checked the throws. I still don't have the cowl completely painted and I need to finish routing the fuel fill and overflow lines. I'll have to make a run to my LHS to pick up a fuel dot.

With everything together (less cowl) I weight it and it comes in at 14.8 Lbs. according to the old BRS. That's bathroom scale to you and me. I know that's probably a little high because it always says I'm heavier than I want to be.
The CG is about one inch aft of where it should be so I'm not sure how much I'll have to add to get it balanced. Does anyone want to take a shot?

Anyway, here are a few shots from today’s session.

Psych!!! Thought you were gonna seem some photos didn't ya! So did I, dang 500 error!!!

David,
14.5 lbs is spot on, she will fly great at that weight and will be a real floater on landing. Seems like you only have about an hour of work left before she is ready to fly, what are you waiting on?

Rx and ignition power switches are installed. I wanted to keep a little more scale look (as you are probably aware) so I mounted the switches underneath the front of the back seat.
I made a trip to the LHS yesterday after flying at the club field. I haven't been there in a while because of the price of gas! I picked up a 6 volt Rx battery but when I got home I found out it was a 4.8 volt. Can you day.... DOH! The guy handed me the wrong one. Other than that I think I have everything I need.
Now on to the cowl. I need to mount the fuel dot and finish painting.
That's it for now. Hmmm... I am on vacation on this week, or should I call it a "staycation"? Ya know................................
Take care,
David

One is for the Rx, the other is for the Ignition.

Getting a late start this morning.  I was enjoying sleeping in too much!  [X(]  It feels like it's heating up quickly today but it's only suppose to be in the mid 90's, a good 5° cooler than yesterday.  I've got lots to do this week (not all RC related) so I'd better get started.

Maybe Anthony, just maybe!  I'm going to try to head back to the LHS where I bought my battery to try to exchange it.  That along with getting the gas can and pump, kind of important to be able to get gas into the tank!

If I don't fly it during this week, it may have to wait a while.  The highs for this weekend are suppose to be well into the triple digits!  We'll just have to wait and see......
