I used the RCxcell from Agape Hobbies. Super easy to start and runs perfect. Plus, it easy to install.

Are you looking for the electronic ignition to completely replace
the stock mag setup for better performance or easier hand starting?
If for ease of starting, I have always used the C&H jumpstart
setup. You flip a switch and plug in an exterior battery pack,
hand the start the plane, remove battery and turn off switch.
Its pretty simple to use, also is good if you still need the nose weight of
the mag engine.
If you want, I can bring it out next weekend to BW if you are coming
up?

THUNDERBOLT, yes, he has asked for an ignition idea, but i have asked him if he needs pointers to start it manually, its up to him to go one way or the other, its quite common for a Z62 owner to not be abale to hand start these engines, but i can, i have sold all my boosters, and spring starters, i simply no longer need them,

I understand Thunderbolt as I dont know exactly what Doug
wants/needs but if he is looking for easy to start, I have
the jumpstart to give him
Alan, man I tell you, I have tried with all my might to handstart
a mag powered G62 and never been able to do it. Thats why
I used to use the jumpstart so I could hand prop.
Now I just use my megatron starter

Once i was shown myself, the next one to start it was not me, it was my then 13 yr old son, it has to be set up, but its moments of a job, if he wants to know, i am here, reason i am offering this is simple, i have seen too many electronic modules pack in, the most i would do is fit a TONY CLARK booster to it, these consist of a lead and socket thats mounted on the engine, and a booster box, these are very handy for a model with a big radial cowl, i have, with these units started the engine from BEHIND the prop, they are fitted as standard to the Zenoah 80 twin, but with twin leads, of coarse and to be honest, the atraction of gas engines is no starters, just a can of fuel, a transmitter, and the model,

Perhaps he will get a direct answer to his question in a more appropriate forum for a gas engine question.

I used the Rexel unit after the pickup coil mount broke after I knocked the engine of the bench. Made up my own mount for the pickup.

I secondthe RCxcell unitfrom Agape. I just completed this exact conversion on my G62 and it starts easily by hand. I also used this on a G45 about a year ago and had excellent results with it too.

However every now and then it'd just decide to get cranky and we had to drag the starter out on it, then take it home and go through everything again which would sometimes fix it, sometimes not. Sometimes you'd just put it away and a week later and it'd be fine again. A CH ignition conversion sorted it out but we never really ran it much after that as better engines came along...

RE: Zenoah G62 electronic ignition conversion???!
Hi.
I've done three (3) of these. The 1st was a CH Ignitions, the 2nd from Milton @ RC Xtreme, and the 3rd from a seller on the RCU Gas Engines Classified that is an RC XCel unit.
The engines came out approx. 1lb lighter w/o mag, they idle better, and have a better top end. In all cases, they work perfectly w/o problems. They are all RC XCels by the way! (Yes, the CH was/is an RC XCel unit that was sold by them at the time.)
So, if you want a good, reliable unit, get an RC Xcel from the seller here @ RCU or go to CH Ignitions (yes, they are back in business under new ownership).
Just my 2 cents.

RE: Zenoah G62 electronic ignition conversion???!
a few years ago I converted mine to electronic ignition, I did so to reduce the length of the spark plug using a 14mm to 10mm adapter for a CM-6 spark plug. Works great and idles even better. I never hand start as I always have my miller persuader to start engines. Just recently pulled the out the G62 and put in a GT80 with an ignition and man it idles so great and much smoother than a single.
