Default YGE 90HV F3A

Guys, anyone tried YGE 90HV F3A ESC? How's it compared to JETI Spin 99 and Schulze. I need to buy new ESC for the Asian Oceanic Championships this September, problem is Jeti and Schulze is out of stock in F3a unlimited. Only YGE is available. Thanks in advance

Hi,

The current 2012 Swedish F3A Champion, Anders Johansson, use in his Sebart Wind S Pro a YGE 80HVwith Hacker C50-14XL. He built the plane in 2010 and still use it. I do not know what difference it is between YGE 80HV and YGE 90HVother then the latercan cope with 10 more amp. YGE 80HV was in productionin 2010 and it has F3A brake and weight is 58 gram with cables. YGE 90HV is slightly heavier at 79 gram with cables.

I believe the difference between the YGE 80HV and the 90HV is that the 80HV was prone to burst into flames. Fortunately I got away with only scorch marks inside my plane!
A buddy has been using the 90HV for some time with good results.

I’m running my 4th season on YGE 80HV and I find them to be the ideal F3A controller. Never heard of one burning before. YGE90 however is different in characteristics. The experience people have had in Sweden is that the first generation worked ok, but was not as smooth as the YGE80 in engaging/disengaging brake. Later generations have had problems with misfiring (loosing sync/timing) when throttling up after down lines. This has happened on several types of motors (C50s and Pletty advance). I would assume this is due to variations in firmware on newer controllers. A friend of mine even had his prop thrown off in flight (YS emulator?). Unfortunately there is no way to identify or change firmware on the YGEs. If the YGE 90 is your only choice I would recommend making sure that your dealer is willing to cancel the purchase in case it will not work with your motor. I do not know how common the "bad firmware" version is.
YGE in general are very high quality. Small and efficient. I have used them in many sizes with good results. The anti-spark function of the 90 is setting a mark for other esc manufacturers to follow.

If you feel lucky there are now also some Chinese YGE clones (think it was himodel), but I would not recommend that.

I had 2 80's blow up in a plane 3 years ago. They were using a faulty component. It happened to a lot of guys. It was part of one run and the problem was fixed. To my knowledge the 90's have worked perfectly..

The YGE90 worked perfectly. I do recognize the issue of misfire after downline. However, i would still recommend this controller. I also find it more efficient then the jeti opto-99. About 5-10%, which is notable. I flew mine with Plettenberg 30-10 and Advance.

At what brake setting (%) is there a risk of mis-fire?

I have flown this a few times now with the brake incorrectly programmed (the prop almost stops on downlines) and the acceleration after the downline is fine...I may not have had the acro brake selected.

I'm going to re-program it and try again...I want to ensure I stay clear of any risky operating condition.

I dont think the brake settings have any influence on the misfiring.

Re-programmed and run this weekend at 10% brake...transitions were flawless. I may try a little more brake and see how it goes.

With the YGE the idle can be adjusted so low that we found just running at low idle to provide pretty decent brakes at least for the draggy Xigris.

This really is an improvement over the Jeti 90...much smoother with no noticealble performance difference from begining to end of the flight.

Hey guys, I need to get another YGE 90 but F3A Unlimited has been out of stock for quite some time.

Is there another relaible source in the US? Also is there only one 90 HV...the same one that seems pretty popular with Helis or is there a specifc version for F3A?

Here's another place.

There's a low voltage and a high voltage 90. Same esc for both heli and planes.

I have given this some consideration but opted for the Turnigy Dlux 80HV Opto instead, purely for the reasons that the latter is available direct from the UK Warehouse, is cheap and is being used as a test ESC for a budget build. I'll post up some details when I have them but for now, here's a pic of them side by side and also a link to the Turnigy unit Ive ordered.

Hi Frank,
Looking forward to see the YGE in real life, especially the 90HV with F3A brake.
I still love the proportional braking of my Schulze 32.80KA but I need to save some weight in the Citrin so the YGE seems a pretty good match.
It saves me 40grams compared to the Schulze.
I don't know how the quality is compared to the Schulze?

No offense but it doesn't feel right to put a clone esc in a 5500 dollar plane
Had some bad experience with a bunch of Sentilon and Plush esc's in the past.

Greets,

Roy

Original YGE-90 is a great controller and for sale. On an expensive plane I also would be hesitant. Although specs and software can be the same you cannot be sure on component sourcing and build quality.

I just bought a YEP45 to test.

Totally agree Roy, you can pick up an original YGE 90 for € 229, . About the quality, in mine opinion nothing can beat the Schultze to bad the are
bankrupt...... but the YGE is a nice small esc with great functions ( freewheel ) good brake and seems too be an energy saver as well compared
with the Spin.

Andy, what are your experiences with the budget Turnigy Dlux ESC?

Volkert, and what are your experiences with the budget YEP45 ESC?

I am just looking for a smaller ESC (~45A max on 4S) for a 48" pattern plane (Extreme Flight Vanquish V1) and would like something with data logging, such as the Turnigy Dlux. However, I also need it to be light , with a nice BEC and with a smooth throttle response. And of course, somewhat efficient. :-)

I am currently using an Extreme Flight Airboss 45A Elite ESC, but fell the throttle response nonlinear somehow. It is nevertheless really light and has a nice BEC.

Thank you!

Kind regards,
Nikolay

Hi Nikolay, totally happy with the YEP45. Got another for a different plane; believe it is a YEP40 since the 45 was discontinued? Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong on the YEP controllers.
