Time to complete this beast is finally here.....

A friend of mine is making custom wiring harnesses for Nav lights and landing/taxi lights. Once I get them, test them in the airplane then installation of flaps and retracts air lines will be left to do. Lower skin of center wing will be made with 6oz Carbon fiber weave cloth and epoxy resin. After that all servos will be installed finishing off this build.

What's best way to do CG on a large model as this is, any ideas from guys how you do on large model, I mean by hanging them or putting them on some cg stand.....what r my options on this....

Over the years, many people have wondered how the fuselage is from inside, well I hold them it's hollow with different wall thicknesses on top, sides and belly. Well here is your chance to see it for the first time....getting her ready for the flying, 2 long CF pushrods were placed inside the fuselage from the opening of the nose gear bay...

These will control both elevators and center rudder. Out board rudders will be controlled with servos mixed in with aux channels.

You can see both rods through a small access hatch under the horizontal stabilizer....

Another milestone achieved by making both elevators fully functional!!!.

A servos tray was made with 1/8" ply with 2 stands on both sides. This was placed inside the fuselage and the 2 servos are installed. On center rudder is Hitec HS 645MG and on elevators is Savox SC 251MG

These elevators are first of all flight control surfaces on this model to become power controlled with there Savox SC 251MG servo and custom made carbon push rod .....

These will be mounted inside the fuselage upside down right above where wing mounting screws are on wing saddle. I have chosen this location in order to maintain CG of the aircraft. Presently she is very nose heavy and these servos at this location will help our in balancing act later on.

Also considering to place large Robart retract airtank between these servos under the servo tray.

Hey Sammy - I've been meaning to ask how the fuselage was formed as a hollow shell from sheet foam.

Hey James,

Not too difficult to do but you will been to modify ur templates with inner cutouts first. From what I remember, initially I marked wall thickness I needed on the inside of the templates, then cut out the center sections from them, this way they were like doughnut with hole in between. After the holes were cut, templates were re-nailed on the sub sections of the fuselage and then a long rod with ball end was heated up and passed through those section in from one end and out the other!. This formed a long hole preferably in the center of the sub section. Then one end of the hotwire bow was untied from it's arm and fished through this long hole in the fuse sub section. After that it's end was retied to the arm and heat was turned on the bow to desired voltage and bow was used to move the wire to inner edge of the template and it started cutting the foam from the middle. We went in circle from starting point to the finish point, which was the starting point in clock wise or anti-clock direction hollowing out the fuselage sub sections. After all 3 sub-sections were hollowed by same process, they were joined together. In the end is was like how actual aircraft is built, first in sub modular sections, then joined to sub sections and then all subs are joined to make whole fuselages.

Can't wait to see a video of the maiden flight. It look pretty much redy to go from the pictures when you received your award (except for some paint and the gear doors, lol).
Did you ever sort out how to do the door for the nose gear?

Will be getting back on this project in day or two, moved into a new house, started to work on my Beast the "Concorde", in day or two I will restart working on it and finished it after all this time.

Some of you must be wondering if this model disappeared from face of the earth or become hanger queen i'm sure, well no it's still around and is in great spirits. Getting final bits done on it before the maiden flight in spring of 2014!!. Every time i get invited to some event with this model, I came across constant power up problem!, meaning once batteries are connected for the engines, wing is bolted tot he fuselage, I have to keep TX on all the time and throttle in full down position, if my accident stick moves up, motors start turning and propellers can cause harm to onlookers and kids. So to avoid this Im going to add a circuit breaker between batteries and ESC's and therefore need access into the fuselage from outside with assembled model. To do this I am making a large hatch at the rear fuselage where cargo loading and unloading doors were on L1049H models, I also made a sub passenger door also, sort of like how actual aircrafts had by keeping length of large access hatch half the size then what it should be as scale!. Reason being, I didn't want to compromise fuse's structural strength and integrity at all. Both hatch and the doors were made from fiberglass and carbon fiber lay up method and have been incorporated on the fuselage. All it's need it hinging on the top for main hatch and on sides for the door. Hatch will eight be locked at the bottom with hatch hinges or I'll make mechanical mechanism for locking the hatch from the bottom.

That looks like it will work, it is probably stronger than it was originally.

I still have to make a frame on the hatch, door and the fuselage on the inside to make sure its solid due to "L" angle corner cuts of the frames....I then will be satisfied.

No not really a dead but I am hoping to give all you guys some exciting news real soon with a video.
Model is suffering from electrical wiring issue due to there lengths and signal loss and my batteries are puffed up already. Once I sort these out, it will be a flying time...

Sam shorter runs or bigger wire would help. As far as the batteries puffing up your pulling too much out of them, that is why I suggested more of them before, not enough MaH to handle the load.
