Video of gearboxes with Willy's mod
Here's a video I made to show how much sound the moded gearboxes generate.
The original configuration was very quie, but the mod does not make them any louder.
Please excuse the production quality, it's pretty bad....

Nice!
That is quiet.
Your rotation however, sounds like a swarm of bees.
Love the Pz IV bin. I was thinking of that on my 'Lenigrad survivor Initial'.

I'd like to see some extended run time on these before I drop 300 bucks. They sound great and look it too but what will be it's Achilles heel, and maintenance on them?

That's reasonable and I'm doing my best to run them daily to see this myself.
Maintenance should be lminimal, the gear heads are enclosed with only the large bevel gears exposed.

I'm sure they are quality parts, but do they have bearings throughout the system and what amps do they draw? I'd like to have a set on a KT I plan to build... maybe the Elefant too?

there are 6 ball-bearings on these 2 out-drive-shafts .
the sealed gear-heads have big oilite bushings .
the amp-draw is by the same type motor ,
lower as with any other gearboxes , since these gearboxes run much smoother ,more efficient .
The only exposed gears are the 2 bevel-gear-sets , which are a large module and harden-steel , so I would expect a long lifespan out of them .
especially when they are properly shimmed ( proper gear-backlash ) during assembly , which I do .
Currently I have 1 set in my Tiger 1 , which was run almost continually the past 2 Danville events ,
and for the June event I am setting up also a King Tiger and a Jagdpanther .

each of these 3 tanks will have a little different configuration in regards to gear-ratio and motor-choice

Very nice. The turret rotation sounded louder than Willy's TU. He is a true craftsman. He just did my 1/14 King Hauler mods. Enjoy it Jim.

Willy always does great work. As one of the first distributors of Impact gearboxes; he fixed the initial problems and turned them into really smooth units; much better than any that have been available since. After seeing how nicely they run in your Tiger (thank you for posting the video, by the way), I am going to pull the trigger on a JS-2 for him to experiment with, and buy a set of them for it as well. -Mike

Look at Willy's answer on post #172.

Dougs June 2013 event
There is a thread about Dougs upcoming June event here on RCU
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11514544/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm
which seams to get a little out of hand , since now they are disusing mainly different battle-systems and such , instead trying to promote this event ,
or even better coming up with some idea's for battle-scenarios and trying to make this event as attractive as possible. I did a few post too .
But we all know that my German-Redneck-English is sometimes
( or most of the time , ha, ha ) ass-backwards , or hard to understand ,
so please , pitch everyone in on this to make this event as attractive as possible !

Guys and Gals, if you have not participated in one of the early style battles, this is your chance. I have not as of yet, but plan to do so this time around. If for no other reason than to see what it is like. I may like it, but I won't know until I try it.
