ORIGINAL: WARBIRDRCER

Following a lot of trial and failure with the 1/7 TF P-40 Warhawk lower cowl decal, I decided to try my hand at some custom art work and paint it myself.
Looks great Steve! Sorry I missed your call, I was on a plane, on the way to Hawaii for business... Call you later today.

Got a couple flights on mine at Joe Nall, then I think it heated up on me and I had to dead stick it. All is well, but I am changing props. Spoke with Dave @ DA and he told me I was running too much prop so I bouhgt a 22 x 10 x 3 mezjlik to put on it. I didn't have a drill guide so I waited to get home to drill it. There were quite a few P-40s out there, looked good!

Loved the P40 ever since I was a small boy and pretty much the only reason I got into the RC hobby. P51, Spits, etc., all great but none are closer to my heart than the P40...it was always the underdog and managed to do more with less. Here is mine (attached pix) .60 size, Top Flight ARF, heavily modified and with 3 seasons of flying on her.

Engine is YS120AC and flies with a 16X10 3 blade Master Airscrew shown (rounded the tips and added decals and yellow tips) in the images below. This year I will try a Xoar 17X8 3 blade. A few more details:

Robart retracts (modified)
Home made and machined oleo struts
Pocket rotary drive system control linkage on ailerons and flaps (no control horns showing)
functioning gill flaps
Sliding canopy
All hidden fuel air switch etc.,.
Scratch built exhaust stacks (functional for cooling only)
custom made water transfer decals
3D panel lines and rivets over glassed areas and original monokote covering
New bomb aux tank drop and interior gun sight added over this winters building season
Misc. scratch built parts and additions
flies well but at 14 lbs wing loading is high. engine makes 14 lb thrust though so its managable. the airframe does have some quirks when executing some manuvers and finds itself at certain attitudes and power settings. We have 3 of them flying at our filed and they all seem to display these quirks.

A few youtubes of my P40 as it was being developed these past few years, I need to do a more current vid but I have not had the time as of yet:

I acquired a rehab project P-40 last week. It is a Bates kit. I took out the Moki 180 and installed a DA 50. Ungraded some of the servos and it is ready to be flown. It is rough cosmetically but we will worry about that after it proves itself in the air. It has been at least 7 years since it flew. It weighs 22.5lbs which is promising. Top Flight giant P-40 spinner fits perfect. RCU wont let me post an image so I linked one.

Hey guys, I have an uncut(for 2 or 3 blade) Yellow Aircraft P-40 Spinner. The backplate is drilled for a DA-50/85 but it can still go on just about any engine. $50 and that includes shipping.

I flew the plane today. Not a perfect Take off but it was safe. It was WAY out of trim. But I got that sorted out. Zero trim change with Take Off or Landing Flap. Landed very nice. One of the cowl mounting blocks came loose so only one flight. But I am happy so far.

I guess you can add me to the club. I flew my esm p40 for the first time yesterday. Rim fire 50cc motor on 10s 6000mah CC160hv ESC. I used the ESM air retracts. Almost 27 lbs with batteries. Flew pretty well but only 4 minute flights. Think I could get six if I went really easy. Need a few more flights to get the throws and expo just right. Nice slow landings without flaps. Should have it at WOD. Sorry no pics to post yet.
