Yellow Aircraft Harvard Build
Hope I don't bore anyone with another Yellow build thread but it is good motivation and a great means of acquiring new information.

Did your metal wing biplane search fizzle out? Not that it makes any difference to me. I'd subscribe to ANYTHING you are building............
Take care,
David

RE: Yellow Aircraft Harvard Build
Hey guys,
Still looking at options for an F3F build but I have this Yellow kit so I may as well move forward with it.
Engine will be G62.
Top gun was lots of fun and we are hooked up to compete next year, pictures coming.

Gear and center flap installed.
Outboard flaps are driven by center one through tabs where they meet on the ends.
Need to make tool to assemble wheels.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Harvard Build
Kinda off the subject but how good are the yellow aircraft planes? I am thinking of their razorback p47 but have never built a kit before. How assembled do they come? I am not a very good coverer but I can paint. How much work goes into finishing the covering on these planes? Sorry to sound like a newbie but I really want a razorback p47.

Hi Jeff,
Covering with linen is actually very easy.
One trick before you start is to dampen the cloth slightly before hand with a spritzer bottle and water, this allows the fabric to drape much easier.
A small bead of tacky glue flattened down with a wet finger eliminates a glue ridge line.
Apply glue only to the perimeter, not to the ribs.
A slight stretch and hold is all it takes until the glue bites.
Follow this with two coats of Nitrate to fill the weave and two coats of Butyrate to shrink.
When you apply the Nitrate dope the fabric relaxes and looks horrible and you think you've screwed it up (no worries)
as soon as the Butyrate hits it, it tightens right back up again.
Started fabricating the exhaust system.
Smoke and fuel tanks are in along with air chuck, fueling and charging ports behind hatch.
Also converted to electronic ignition.

Nice work!
Have you seen this Harvard film from the BCATP Museum in Brandon [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMlHWN7avDg[/link]
In the film there is a Harvard #6 with a different roundel on each top wing .
I test flew my Ziroli Harvard last week with a G-62, flew nice.
Look forward to more photos.
cheers - ken

Curious to see what you plan to do for the ADF antenna housing, seems to be one of the most important things missing from yellow's harvard conversion kit other than the correct canopy... I'm trying to decide how to build the ADF right now
BTW i just got down from flying harvard 20216 of the goldilocks aerobatic team, what a sweet bird

Hi Paul,
Putty up against masking tape for the lines and spots of glue for rivets, same method used on the Harvard as shown here in the accompanied pictures of my Avenger.

Hey Chic,
How's the Avenger coming along?
Billy J,
The exhaust is welded up from pre-bent aluminum tube and will be fastened to the fuselage side with brackets.
Rivets are a canopy/wood glue concoction applied with a syringe.
Latest pic.
