Hi Guys
I've been working on the rear of the fuselage. I have painted it a light pale gray as discribed in all info I've found on the triplanes tube color. Which in the early production runs the frames were supposedly unpainted just bare metal varnished! Then later went to the light pale gray. Which in some light looks white. I used an enamel paint brushed on over enamel primer. Next I started to brace wire the fuselage. This is a slow process which takes much time and effort. I will show in later posts how I go about my methods of doing this. But for now here are some pic's.
TK
Well after numrous attemps to post pics I have to give up for now and will try later. The server will not down load.... again!

Tom do you jig/brace the fuse as you do the cross brace wires so it doesnt pull it out of alignment?

Morning
If anyone is interested in the way I do my bracing I will go thru it quick.
First you have to use a solid wire. I have a spool of wire I got from my Dad for he was in the wire buisness his whole life. I believe it's stainless. He's passed so I can't ask him. I put one end in a vise, with a 4 ft length at the other end I roll a couple times around a set of needle nose pliers. Then I pull, or tug a bit to stretch the wire, or draw it. If the peice for instance is 40 inches long it will stretch to 44, so that being said the length increases 4 inches. I do this so as the wire does not get loose over time from stretching. And to get it nice and straight. I then apply it to the fuse bays and secure it with either turnbuckles where needed or Dubro swaiges. I made up a tightening tool to acomplish this with. Not easy you could use an extra hand to get them good and tight.

Now I'll show you guys one of the coolest secrets! For those who don't already do this....
The cable retainers that are at each end of the turnbuckles that look like springs are so easy to make and work flawelessly.
First I put a drill bit in my drill press upside down. You use the required size to make the diameter you wish to have. Then a peice of wire the same you are using on the rigging usually works fine. make a 1/4 inch 90 degree bend at one end. stick that up in the chuck, now pull on the other endwith a set of needle nose and slowly turn the drill chuck by hand, do not attemp to turn the drill press on!! And roll the stock around the bit. Slide it off the bit, cut to lenght and you have the perfect cable retainer! Looks scale and works awesome!

From what I've read and seen in the reshearch over the years all control surfaces were not taped, just stiched.
So that would be ailerons, elevator and rudder. The stab was taped. Kinda weird...........

Still wire bracing. Now waiting on a shipment of turnbuckles to finish the rest.

Thanks. The faceplate came from GTM. We haven't started on the wings yet. Prop should be a 40x8.

Properly sized, installed, and glued in place he shouldn't have a problem. He can also epoxy a piece of ply over them to keep them from backing out.

I've just always used big fender washers along with lock nuts on the back of my gasser firewalls. IMHO, blind nuts are for small glow engines.

Good luck with the rest of the build!
