Funny some some guys have hit 100mph and I've ran 2.2sec in the 132ft with an .18

RE: 100MPH HPI RS4 3 EVO+ ????
Im not sure. The car with the 18 was originally a 21 powered 105mph car and I just dropped an 18 in it and gearing to match only 2 weeks before the event. Its hard to say now since the motor was taken back out right after I got back but it would be interesting to find out.
If anyone out there would like to donate or loan me a fully modded 18TZ, I'd love to try. I still own the ISC car along with 3 more that are exactly like it.

Going fast does cost alot of money, I don't run this platform but man it sure is fun when you reach new milestones.

It all depends on what someone might consider "a lot of money". If youre talking about an entire new set up, then youre looking to spend a lot but since the Racer2 is far from a new model, I've found them as cheap as 40 bucks. Nice used motor with new conrod I can find sometimes for around 200, then gearing, servos, odds and ends. The cheapest I've built for myself was around 400 and the most expensive was a super nitro which was brand new in the box plus brand new motor, pipe and odds and ends was around 1500.

I can see your point, I was basing my opinion off the platform I'm using, a savage. If you already have some knowledge on going fast that there saves money as you know what to buy and what not to. But as you know going fast means trial and error. What works for you doesn't mean it will work for another. Sharing knowledge is awesome as its free and saves time and headaches.
You wouldn't want to know how much I've spent turning a school bus into a Ferrari, but its a lot of fun
Maybe one day ill venture back into onroad with a big block

Knowing what to buy saves money, I'm about 600 into my RS4 3 evo and 400 of that is the engine.
102mph, done. (to be fair I use the same radio on 4 cars, just had to buy servos and a reciever)

RE: 100MPH HPI RS4 3 EVO+ ????
I just received my Ofna 19/26 pinion gear so I quickly removed my engine to replace it an once I out it on and tried to mesh with the 37/41 spur gears and realized how 1st gear is only being scratched so meaning I will definetly strip as I would try to launch. I remove the Ofna grad and replace it with my HPIs, I go shower and I'm thinking and thinking how it would fit. I came up with an idea if 19/26 pinion will not work with 37/41spur maybe I can use a bigger spur to reach it. So as soon as I finish showering I run to the garage to try a bigger spur gear and BINGO!!! I tried a 41/47 spurs onto it and it was a perfect match. So instead of using spur gears by the set if 4, I would have to go by counts of 6. So I will be using 37/43spur gears and my great luck I do have a 43 in my tool box.
Coming tomorrow I will be replacing all gearing and see what speeds I can get and will post vids too.

You'll find this out when you run it, as I've tried a far spaced two speed like you're trying.
when it hits second it's going to bog the engine and not accelerate anymore.
If you have a high gear ratio that is... I had better results keeping just a two tooth difference between 1st and second and lowering the ratio by way of changing pulleys on my old RS4. But in the end single speed proved to be the most consistent.

Yes , I had thought about the shifting and it is a big difference. But maybe by adjusting 1st gear to shift at a very high RPM might help out.

RE: 100MPH HPI RS4 3 EVO+ ????
I actually saw a LOSI bell on an RS4 with a 2 speed for the first time this sunday and it ran really good. He had it shifting at about a regular shift point. He had a 21 in it thought so that might have had something to do with it. I've been using the LOSi threaded bell but with only the 26 pinion for many years now. Never gave the 2 speed a shot. Might have to do so.

Ive put the gears on and seems to mesh pretty good. Second gear gas a closer fit than first does but will seem to work ok.
Will try to run this afternoon

Hmm being 1/8 with my savage I'm around 500-600ft now, so 1/10 I can see that. Much lighter car with stronger motors, gets up to speed quicker.
I've been reading this thread and many others on top speed onroad cars. I'm seriously beginning to consider jumping in. I've got the motors and being a huge HPI fan I think the choice is clear, RS4. But is belt drive better than shaft driven? I would think shaft would be more reliable.

I believe that shaft is more reliable but I think you can get more speed out of the belt driven rs4 due to that you can change the pulleys for more speed

I think they can both be equally fast, but there is a difference in roll resistance for sure.
With the shaft drive rs43 I can just tap on the car and it rolls freely, I can't do that with my belt drive cars.
Also with pebbles around the shaft drive is more reliable and IMO stronger, I can't count how many rear belts I've been through.

RE: 100MPH HPI RS4 3 EVO+ ????
The Losi 19/26 pinion and the HPI 37/44 spur gears work great. No bogging or problems when shifting into second. The only problem I was running into was wheels and tires. The HPI belted tires blew out on me, it unglewed and a chunk of tire flew off. Couldn't get good traction with foams but took care of the job. Although I did run into a curb ad damaged my carbon fiber chassis.
Watch this video and there's 3 other vids I also uploaded today.

What kind of distance are you guys running at to achieve these speeds?
