The wings came ot pretty light at 392 and 387 grams w/o servo and wing tube. Keeping in mind their size (525 sq inches each) and full paint, it's pretty fair weight....
Fuse with canopy and chin cowl, 1086 grams
Stab total including tube,211 grams. This is reasonably sized at 240 sq inches soslightly heavierweight per sq inch as wing panels. Needed to be strong for the 55 up front of course
Landing gear, complete with axles but w/o wheel, 4.4 ounces.
So around 2300 grams ready for equipment. That was the goal weight from the start for the completed model.

It's a larger monoplane thanwhat we normallysee in pattern, (exceptingthe biplanes and triplanes), at 1150 square inches of wing.
A full 2 meter by 2 meter platform.
All paint, basecoat clear coat finish, over silkspanned and/or glassed wings, stabs and rudder.
DLE55 cc petrol engine on my own design soft mount. ES Composites 55G carbon pipe; hatori header plus extension. Mezjlik 20x12 3 blade carbon prop; TT 3" spinner. Thrust to weight ratio of 3:1 should be a blast to fly.
All up finished weight 4895 grams, which meets the original goal for this model..........
Photos will come as I take them.........Flight report after it happens......

Claude the DLE55 is not the stock engine you buy. In earlier pages I show the reworked engine I'm using. With the help of a machinist friend we removed about 3 1/2 ounces of dead weight off the engine. My engine weight is 2 lbs 12 ounces, or 44 ounces. Compared to the OS GT33, that's 10 ounces heavier. In additionthe supporting pieces which include pipe, header, prop, prop bolts, soft rubber iso mount, longer stand offs andcouplers, add another 7 ounces over the same parts used on the 33.
HadI used the OS GT33 from the start, the plane would have been less than 10# RTF. It would have flown like a feather tho with that much wing area. Regardless, that's a great number to work towards on the next Delta, with slightly smaller wing area. Remember, I built the mold for the model in the early pages so I can make another copy anytime. But first I need to see what this one needs to fly right
The powerplant hadbeen run extensively in an Extra (about 25 hours run time). The piped set-up is well understood and of course, fully broken in.

Very good effort Matt!
Now you need to do this on a 2 meter Bipe with a 50cc
looking forward to pictures

Some Control line Stunt guys (Bob Hunt) routinely build 700 square inch wings that weigh 7-8 ounces (all paint except open bay), so I doubt that would be a big challenge
Didn't the Argentinian guy say his friend had done that already? A bipe with a 50cc is no biggie except don't know about his weight
But heck, why stop at 2 planes? The next step is a precision aerobatictriplane. CPLR is already flirting with it, with good reason!!

I really like the OS GT33; I have several of them....... It has everything we need for the highest levels of pattern. No reason to go to anything else at this time except a rear exhaust configuration OS GT33.

No maiden yet.....Been away on business. Also the constant nagging leg problems are persistent, taking the fun out of it for me. Haven't flown in 6-7 weeks.....
Did manage to start the DLE this afternoon. I love petrol stuff for it's lack of rust and general lack of maintenance requirements. The engine had been on the shelf the better part of 2 years, yet, after a slight amount of coaxing (15 flips maybe) it came back to life. Powerwise, all I gotta say is awmygoshki....It's gonna be fun
Four pounds of powerplant

Just 3 words: FA BU LOUS!
Hard to conceive that it could be kept under 5kg with that powerplant and such a rich-looking paint job.
You're gonna have it at Pocono, right??

On the paint job, look from 5 feet away. It is very sheer and can just about see through it in spots. But it accomplishes the intended task
Poconos....don't know if I'll feel up to it, but I'll try, regardless of how the CD feels about my gas efforts

Snaps. Simpler paint job is lighter. I may change some gold areas for white at some point, if I can't see the model

I got a little ahead of myself. I forgot the CDI unit in the 4895 gram figure. Adding that module put me right at 5 Kg.
Here are some more snaps of the finished and equipped model. The tank set-up is the typical 2 line set-up that is so simple, even I can do it. The vent is simply wound around the tank's stem and the feed line is tee'd. So many folks flying gas insist on complex solutions for fuel systems........

Radio set-up. Neatness counts. The grommets are standard rubber types that do the job of wire protection just great.
The IBEC, VReg and RX are velcro'd in. Come to think of it, so is the tank and battery. I like the battery up top for easy access. I remove the LiPo from the airframe to charge
I've used eye screws to set-up pull pull forever. These are standard McmasterCarr issue

Engine treatment.....
I didn't take any snaps of the rubber iso mount and the nose ring arrangement. I have photos of those set-ups early in the thread
I've discussed the coupler arrangement before. It is molded (shaped to fit) from ceramic and Permatex Ultra Copper. The plastic tie wraps are plenty to hold them in place without melting (spun alumina is a great insulator). Should work well on YS exhaust too
The spark plug wire usually comes with a spring clip that is a total pita to work with. My solution is to toss the spring clip and add a short length of silicone rubber. It holds great but allows simple plug cap removal
