I used 14x6 blade props for my first engine run. I taxied around the field for 15 minutes and then spent 45 minutes pulling grass off my plane. I'm switching back to 13x8x3 blade props before my maiden flight. I'm running os 95v fs engines. Power is way more than I need!

UMITV, I'm in the process of switching to DLE 20's and would love to see how you mounted them. Pretty much have to carve out the middle of the firewall to get the carb through and concerned about how much strength is left and how to reinforce it.

Just curious, but why dle-20s? If you want gas, why not go saito 91 gas or something similar? The plane was designed for an os 70fs and a dle is 1.20...that's a big jump! I think os 70 engines were around 1hp.
My 95v engines required zero added weight to the plane. I did use a bunch if electrical extras, but they are all right around CG. I'm curious how much tail weight the dle engines would require

Fidelity,
This might sound silly but I had a couple of NIB DLE-20's sitting in my workshop and I had to send both of my Saito 82's in for service so I was staring at the 2 DLE-20's and 2 empty firewalls and have a desire to convert from glow to gas. Agree that they are overkill for sure but I have them just sitting here.

I'll post pictures when I get home town back. Carbs just touch firewall. Because fuel tanks right behind firewall. And I put alot of epoxy on firewalls. They are too thin for these engines. Also I had to move battery pack from nose to cockpit. That's all. I have no problem so far.

Finally I replaced os .55's with dle 20's on my b-25. It flies great. Only problem is prop clearance. 14x9 3 blade prop only 1,5 inch from ground. I'll post some pictures

Umitv, do you remember which motor mounts you used? If your carb's are just touching your firewall, it would seem your prop is sticking out about an inch further forward. Did you modify your cowls?
As I was doing my measurements, it seemed that the carb would have to go through the firewall and use a smaller fuel tank to have the props about the right position in front of the cowls. I'm VERY interested in how you did yours as I can copy great designs with the best of them!

I used great planes motor mount large size. And i put some spacers on cowl. So cowl moved front for little bit. I think prop space is half inch and doesn't look bad. I'll post pictures tonight. I did as simple as I can. Most important part is reenforce firewall.

Thanks! When you get home, can you tell me if this is the one you used?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXATG7&P=ML
If so, did it fit onto the firewall between the two formers that stick out?
Appreciate your help!!

YEs Dave I used this mount. You have to cut those formers that stick out. Be careful when you cut them. Because surface should be flat. Engine mount sits exactly where it is. Pictures will help you more than my bad english

Thanks Umit! Pictures are great and I appreciate the time you took to post them! Did you put the ignition switches up on the fuse by the nose or did you keep them on the nacelle? What did you use for spacers for the cowls?

I use one ignition kill switch and connect to both ignition with y harnes cable ( but you have to convert plugs) and use one battery for both ignition. for spacers I use these little nuts.http://www.robart.com/products/air-line-retainer-nuts I found them in my tool box.

Cool! I have a bunch of those Robart nuts laying around. Will order the GP motor mounts and get started. Looks like you didn't go with the dummy radial engines in the front of the cowls...

Umitv,
Was just contemplating your ignition batter setup and had in my mind that I would have a separate switch and battery for each. But with your way, you save the weight of one battery and switch and if you have a battery or switch failure, both engines would die together. Hmmm, that's an interesting thought. But then Speed flew with one dead engine and landed just fine a couple of times if I remember correctly.
