Right Thrust for Morris The Knife??
I have a Moirris The Knife ARF that I have just started flying. I have heard that adding about two degrees of right thrust is helpful for flying. I built the Knife as the manual directed. Nothing was mention about right thrust. Would adding right thrust be beneficial? If so how? Also can right thrust be easily added?
I suspect right thrust will help with hovering. I hover a SPAD PQHOR easily about 15 feet off the deck and can make adjustments by sight easily, but the Knife is a different story. I can bounce the SPAD and done so a few times, but I hover the Knife 2 mistakes high and struggle at making adjustment due to the visual distance. It is hard to tell if I need a right thrust adjustment or just better thumbs.
Any input about right thrust experience with the Knife would be appreciated.
Dick

I usally stick two washers under the front 2 engine mounting holes to get right thrust, sometimes it crushed the wood, but at least it will get the motor going in the right direction

We're thinking about making some glass-filled nylon wedge material (2" x 3" piece with 2 1/2 degrees of taper, about 1/32" thick on the thin end). This could be cut into strips to go between the mounting rails and the engine mounts for profiles.
Any comments?

You make em, and we will buy em.....
I do have a small suggestion though. Make the original piece at least 3"x3" or even a fuzz bigger. That way they can also be used on planes that have a flat firewall to add thrust. My HYPE 3D needs some more right thrust, and it is tricky to do as the engine mounts at an odd angle of around 7 o'clock so the throttle pipe will exit on the bottom of the plane. I will have to have, basically, what amounts to a wedge for the firewall to bolt the engine mount on. Other planes could benefit from a wedge like this also.
Just a thought, and may bring you in a little more money since it could be used on ALL types of planes. [8D]
Keep the Bros informed of your release dates, and I'm sure you can count on some orders.

Glass-filled nylon wedges? Yes! Yes! Yes! How soon can you have them done?
On the same topic, I've been thinking about right thrust on profiles. One way to get right thrust is to offset the engine to the left rather than "tilting" the engine to the right. I've seen this on a couple of designs. With our profile engines mounted on the right side of the profile, we are actually offseting them to cause left thrust. We then shim them to get the needed right thrust.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Hey Ray perfect timing! My Morris Topcap is almost finished beside motor mount and the Saito 72 is on the way, I would love to try that glass-filled nylon.[8D]

That makes a lot of sense but I don't have the machining equipment to do it so the Birch will have to do. Hopefully it will work.
I made mine by simply taking a 3 1/2 in. Square piece of Birch, 3/16 of an inch thick and sanded it down to 1/16 of an inch on the other end. Should give me approximately 2° of offset.
I will also saturate it in epoxy to fuel proof it and give it additional strength.
