Nice! I've always thought this would be a great sport jet. That thing is hauling the mail bud.

Thank you Andy and Rich! I really love this airplane. It is the second generation of the Dragon with proper wing bolts and much lighter than the last version, which I had too.

Rich, the Mamba is a 140. It generates 30.5 pounds of thrust. I have two of them. This one was my first, got it in 2009. It was in my first Dragon which caught on fire due to a burst Festo filter. Then it was in my PST Revision which was totaled after a wing flap departed (live hinge failure) and was repaired in Texas by I-Jets (Black Mamba) and now has been in this Dragon for a year. Very reliable and strong engine.

30 Lbs...good to know, I guess I could use my Super Eagle as my Cheetah is tied up in another airframe

Rich,

Yes, you can. Didn't mean to go off track, this is a Dragon/Cheetah thread. The Super Eagle will fly it fine as the Dragon is rated to fly at 25-30 pounds. I fly off of grass so the 25 pounder may be a bit sluggish. I have seen guys fly it with a Rhino and a P160 and it is ballistic.

You will need to reinforce some areas and possibly add a bulkhead in the mid-tail area. There is a picture on RCU from few years ago showing the belly of someone's Dragon being sucked in by the vacuum. Also, on one of my wings the ribs were not properly attached to the wing sheeting on top. In my first Dragon, there was no hard point for the control horn on the rudder so I had to add that. But, for the money, this is one sweet airplane!

Has any one tried to match the Green paint used on the Skymaster / X-Treme aircraft, if so do you know the paint code?

Thanks in advance

I have matched the green paint of my skymaster dragon. I do not know if this help but the label came out of the computer shows the following codes.
I kept this lablel for future refernce.
A450 174.2g
A675 1.0g
A565 2.4g
A454 7.0g
A110 12.4g
A546 17.8g ACP

This is for 0.2 liters of paint.
The paint match dragon green color 100%

Radio South should be able to match the color for you. They offer matching paints for Monocote and Ultracote colors but they also say that if you send them a sample
they can match other colors as well. They sell the paints in quantities as small as 4oz so you can make minor repairs without needing to buy large quantities of very
expensive paints.

Thanks Wayne and Mike for your reply's, actually I talked to Nate Dickerson at Diversified Solutions, LLC. Klass Kote Quality Coatings Division.

http://www.klasskote.com

They make a two part Epoxy paint that looks good, Nate said the same thing, send a couple of samples and he will match.

I was looking at the COMP ARF Flash in the Green White and Blue scheme, does anyone know if that green is the same, I do like the COMP ARF paints, they work great!

Sorry but the sticker on the paint can has the brand name of the shop and the lable with paint codes.
I think paint brand was Sikkens but I am not sure.
Why you do not try to bring one wing to a local paint shop that mix and sell automobile paints. They should have a special machine that can copy the color.
I did the same with all my jets. The results are color matching over 95%.

Hopefully some of the original guys that have completed their Dragons are still watching this thread and can perhaps help me out a bit. I ordered my Dragon about the time this thread started but due to life getting in the way only recently got a chance to do any significant work on my Dragon. I recall others mentioning that the thrust pipe they received with their kit was too short. I also was notified by John at X-Treme Jets that I had received the incorrect thrust pipe for my Dragon and that he would be sending me a new pipe. When I received the replacement pipe I only quickly compared it to the original I received with the kit and since it was slightly longer than the original, I assumed it was the correct length. Very recently I've started to seriously try to complete this project and yesterday I went to install the thrust pipe and the replacement pipe appears to be short also. When I slide it in so that it is flush with the rear of the fuselage and install bell mouth, the bell mouth is approximately 50mm short of the turbine mounting rails and the mounting straps on the tube won't even reach the turbine mounting rails. I'll attach a picture to show what I'm talking about. As far as I can tell, the distance from the end of the fuselage to the end of the turbine mounting rails is approximately 700mm. Subtracting 50mm for the depth of the bell mouth it seems that I need a pipe that is 650mm in length rather than the 600mm long tube that I received. I'm hoping that someone that has received the correct thrust pipe measured it and is able to recall the correct length. I've contacted John at X-Treme Jets and since he has been very helpful in the past, I'm sure he will get back to me soon but I REALLY want to be certain I get the correct pipe this time so any information confirming the correct length of the pipe would be appreciated.

Here is a photo to show what I'm talking about. In that photo the other end of the thrust tube is flush with the end of the fuselage.

Wayne, I'll try to post some photos tonight of my pipe set-up.

On a side note my Dragon G2 has been re-maidened and has been set up by Jim Hiller, from the smile on Jim's face I would say it fly's very well

On the fourth check out flight I told Jim to wring it out so we strapped a Hobby King HD video camera on the top of the canopy, the link is below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4CZFWrlCJU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T0HzMfsdB8
I added the ground view video so you can play each video side by side to get a cool effect, start the in cockpit video at the 1 minute mark and start the ground video to get a simultaneous effect....

Thanks for the pictures. Clearly the thrust pipe I received is WAY too short. Unfortunately I haven't received a reply from Skymaster yet. I had hoped to be able to test fly the Dragon at an up coming jet rally but time is slipping away fast...

John from Skymaster replied to me this morning and indicated that I need a 680mm thrust tube instead of the 600mm long tube that I originally received. It also appears that I will be able to "borrow" the 680mm tube included in a X-Treme Jets Hawk 100 kit that I purchased but haven't started assembling yet. This should allow me to quickly complete my Dragon, and hopefully I will have received a replacement tube from John by the time I need it to work on the Hawk.

I guess while I'm at it, I might as well post some photos of what I'm working on. I think I've got a a radio try layout I'm happy with. After a bit more fiddling, I cover it with carbon fiber Ultra Cote. Fuel pump will sit vertically in the large hole centered in front of the UAT. I've also finished an upper tray for gear and brake pressure gauges and main fuel shut off and receiver power switch.

Horizontal stabilizers with Savox 1256TG servos and linkages installed. One of the original posters used a plywood plate to attach the right angle aluminum servo brackets to and was able to avoid having any screws showing on the under side of the stabilizer skins but my servos fit too tightly to allow a plywood plate to be installed. I tried using some small button head screws for attaching the servo brackets but I couldn't tighten them securely enough without compressing the stabilizer skin so I used the large, low profile screws that X-Treme Jets provided and they seem to hold the servos much more securely without compressing the stabilizer skin. Fin and Rudder also got a Savox 1256 TG installed using the same method.

Tail feathers installed for the (hopefully) final time. Servo connectors tied servo wires sheathed in "snake skin" and routed up forward. They'll get trimmed to length and the connectors installed on the other ends once the nose section is attached and the radio tray is installed.

If Anton is reading this thread here is my suggestion, make the tail feathers removable without having to remove the pipe, this this is a beast to store or transport with the horizontal stabs attached, also removing the vertical fin would be a huge help.

All it would take is adding clamps to the attachment pins rather than requiring internal screws from the inside.
