"Optima 7ch & 9ch Transceiver Firmware Update
1. Open HPP-22 Program
2. Connect HPP-22 - wait
3. Select Receiver > Optima 7/9
(Screen will display sequential pictures of Optima 7 & 9 showing connections)
4. Connect Optima "Data" port to "P1" of HPP-22.
5. Connect a fully charged battery pack to battery port of Optima RX and turn on.
. SPC blanking plug must be inserted unless a second power source is connected to SPC port.
6. Screen will display/describe activity. (if no link with 9ch, retry connecting battery to ch6)
7. Do Not turn off / disconnect Optima RX`until transfer bar is complete and instruction received to confirm upgrade is to be finalised.
8. After confirming upgrade is to be finalised, and confirmation is received, turn off battery.
Disconnect lead from Optima and only then either close program or select new process:
Upgrade another Optima from step 3, a Spectra Pro Module or Aurora or Transfer files from an Aurora
NB: Connection must be performed in above order,
(If Optima turned on to soon. it may not be recognised.)
NB: If the data port can be accessed, built in transceivers do not need to be removed from a model,
see information regarding use of extensions:

1. Check the SPC plug is inserted correctly.
2. Do not use ESC/BEC, ensure a fully charged receiver battery is being used.
(a 4 cell battery box for use with alkaline AA & a switch harness is enclosed with an A9 for the purpose of
updating/linking Optima used with EP models)
"Aurora 9 - Radio System Includes - Stylus, Screen cleaner, Flight Preserver, Battery Holder/Switch
for ID Setup in lieu if using an ESC/BEC & BODA Holder - see pictures."
3. If link is still not established with station, insert battery switch harness into the SPC port,
this provides power to the receiver only bypasses any drain by bad servo or other connections.
Be carefull, reverse polarity will damage the transceiver.
4. Some 9ch Optima for whatever reason may still not update, in which case unit must be referred to:

. Upgrade Optima 6 - Is It required?
Question was put to QA Korea 22Nov11 with response:
"Doubt upgrade would impact on Optima 6 used with EP Models - as advised, change related
primarily to interference caused by petrol ignition systems. "
How old is the O6? it may well have the latest firmware, see last para above.

They all reach max. rpm when the throttle stick is at about 60-70% towards full throttle.
I have the Aurora 9 manual and it tells you how to set up a throttle curve BUT there is no explanation of how it works or what the numbers mean-
This is my understanding of the basic premise:If the Throttle level on the A9 is at 50% (1/2 way open) then the servo arm will have moved 50% of the distance between end points.
If I want the servo arm to move LESS at that same 1/2 open throttle setting on TX then when I go to Throttle curve I would set the value at say 30% meaning the servo arm will have moved 30% of the total distance between end points.
IS this correct?
This throttle behavior of gasoline engines is quite common and a lot of folks just ignore the issue but I would like to have my throttle lever on TX correspond with the RPM's ( or at least closer) the engine is putting out.
Any help, discussion, first hand examples, links to forums, videos, etc. are appreciated.

different brands of Tx and servo have differing center points.
If using a digital servo, reset to factory default and ensure arm is set to 90 degrees to case, could be slight differences between
same servo to be adjusted at initial setup with sub trim.
Carburettor rotor arm frequently needs to be loosened and reset:

If you do get it just remember if you try to check your system inside with 60hz light flicker you will get erratic readings. Flash light works good inside garage.
I also have the TM Voice thingie on my Tx and it is very handy during intial aircraft check out. Just remember to fly the plane while you listen to "*****ing Betty" sound off with "speed..., altitude, rpm...." etc!
I don't keep my TM stuff on a plane. Iswap it around when Iget a new plane setup to verify data and then take it out when Iam satisfied.
Good luck
I appreciate the help and have looked at most of the links you provided however they do no provide me with a real world understanding or example of how to set up my planes. Is my understanding of it as posted in the original post below correct?
I am looking for a step by step "method' of how to go about it - perhaps another member that is currently flying Giant Scale w/gas with the same issue can tell me the process they used to set up Throttle Curve in 'real life' and provide me an actual example - not just what buttons to push on the TX.
Thanks!
Ken

No matter what we entered into the Throttle curve option it did not affect the RPM at any point per the RPM meter and pull force. And yes, the Throttle Curve option was turned "ON". This was real time testing with the engine running.
All I am asking for is a simple example of what other folks have done on DA50's and above to get a nice even throttle response.Ken
ps. I have yet to see a simple explanation or example of what or how 'throttle curve' works - I have no problem with the TX, just real world application of the feature!

I am a local club member but these days many folks fly Electric and the old timers (like me) fly a lot of Glow
- not many of us also into Giant Scale Gas power. Another fellow and I have been working together but not having
much luck using his new Futaba 14 chnl.

apart from the links, that you desire.
Gas Engines set same as glow engines with attention to the mechanical linkage of both carburettor horn and servo horn.
Most small petrol engines have a simple Walbro carb and if that is correctly tuned, then user quickly learns the characteristics and sets linkage accordingly.
