any inexpensive good pattern planes?
Hi, are there any inexpensive good flying pattern planes out there? I used to have a venus II and it flew really well, mostly I fly an aeroworks extra and yak now, I'd like to get some good input on a reasonable priced pattern plane of good quality.
thanks,
chuck

Plenty of good reviews of the 2M Vanquish:

Sebart MythoS 125E (I have one).
It is designed for a 6 cell setup to keep cost down, but You can use 8 (or even 10 cell) if You want (I use 8 cell) with suitable motor and ESC.
My MythoS 125 in photo below (I have painted the canopy inside).
I use also a Falcon 75 mm electric carbon spinner (and will use Falcon 19x12 V2 carbon prop also soon).

Electrics have been around long enough that it may pay to look for a nice used one. They're not as beat up as used glow airplanes and most are in a decent state of trim.

How about an "O-TWO" pattern type plane. I bought it 7 or more years ago from Valley View. 60 size with a one piece wing. Only one that I have eve seen. That could be good of maybe it could be bad but it is a nice looking plane.

You have had some good suggestions so far. I have the 62" Osiris and it is an amazing model given its size.
A couple of weekends ago I got to see a E-flite Splendor in action and it is quite capable of smooth and locked-in flight, despite the humongous elevator which is not needed for pattern. Easy enough to dial back the throws, but a very precise servo with tight gears, tight linkage and a high resolution on the radio will tame it.
It is designed around the AS3X "auto stabilization" receiver from Spektrum, but there is no reason any other radio brand couldn't be substituted unless this is a "BNF-only" product at this point.

Bob,
The Splendor is BNF Basic only. The one of the ideas behind the airplane is to showcase the AR635, so it is only being offered with the receiver. If you want to stick another receiver in the airplane, you will have to remove the one that is installed. That being said, it really helps the airplane lock in and takes away a lot of the turbulence that would otherwise blow the airplane around.

I'm sure it works great, but not legal for Pattern competition... not yet, anyway.
If I recall correctly you can switch it off, so it might be useful as a training tool or for sport flying.
But that's a different can of worms.

I started out with a Spot On 50 from World Models. I would not really recommend this plane but it got me through my first contest last summer. I really enjoyed the contest and thought I would like to upgrade, so last fall/winter I bought a used Focus 2 for $500. It was RTF, less receiver and battery. WOW! I really like this plane.
