How about using these? They have different sizes. Night be easier and look better. Nice product, I just bought some. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cooling-louv...item3f23589162

But I was meaning more the whole 'exhaust panel' itself.

I think I've figured out how to cut out the vents to make them functional.
In the 6" longer nosed A5 version there ws a panel added so I don't need to worry about a seam.
In your case, unless you need the added length for the ASP FS400R5 that area will be covered by the functional exhaust stacks. The area I cut away was just where the fake exhuast stacks were located.

I guess I'm more worried about the heat factor - or is it ok to run the exhaust streams past those fibreglass 'exhaust panels' (be nice if I could find out what those things are actually called - maybe..."exhaust flashings"...??)

If anything, the increased velocity/volume of the exhaust gases combined W/the cooling gases (hot air) rushing past the louvers should cause a pressure drop & promote even more flow from the chamber behind the louver panel. If you are worried about the heat damaging the fiberglass itself, make an aluminum shield plate & extend it rearward to the louvers. It wouldn't be noticable. You will need to fill in the hole where the fake stacks are cut out anyway. Just make it long enough to reach the louvers where a seam won't be as notceable.
I think that the cooling louvers & hollow fake exhaust stacks combined W/a prop hub driven cooling fan forcing airflow past simple baffles to concentrate the airflow over the fins, will eliminate the need for large holes in the cowl. I'm still thinking about some of the louver panels on the bottom of the cowl, but only after testing shows a need for them. They won't be that noticable when the plane is on the gear or flying.
For my 3-cylinder Radial, I'm thinking that a pair of un-cut, full louver panels where the exhaust outlest are located in the example above might help airflow further. That's if the other modification don't yield satisfactory cooling.
BTW: Congatulation to n8622t for a great looking & performing Wurger. I'm a died in the wool 4-stroker myself.

SR, what I did on my Fw was to make several big holes in the firewall. And in the front top, center of the wing ( inside the fuselage).
Then air can slip out the wheel wells.

I'm extending the nose 1 1/4' to model an A5 so that will allow me to make even more ducting.
I'm still making the side vent funtional. the large aluminum louvers are almost the perfect size for scale & I can file off & fill in the 3rd louver back for the scale like spacing.

How does one become an "importer" or "dealer" for these things?
Fair dinkum, it's like trying to squeeze blood out of a stone getting one of these babies down here.
It's either "wait another 6 months" and/or "be prepared to sacrifice your children to afford one".
I'd soooo like to buy half a dozen or so of these - ok, make it 10 - and hock them for my cost + AU$100 - just so we could get to see a few around the traps and stop being so bloody elitist down here in the Land of Oz...

Test flew mine yesterday with 2 flights and flew it 3 more times today. She's a keeper! Flies like a low wing sportster.
Lands with no drama. My CG is just slightly aft of the 5.5 in they call out in the instructions.
Saito FG57T with a Xoar 22x10 and NO ballast added. Using the robart electric gear. Love the sound of the wind over the airframe on short final with the nose down power off and all dirtied up.

Try it now.
This was my 2nd flight and I slowed it down too much on final, thus the bouncy landing.
I drove it down the pipe with flaps today and it was a non event.
Also that video was shot from a steenkeen Samsung Note phone!
I had one of my friends use my phone in case my camcorder video was unusable.

Could I talk one of you into posting a picture of the mechanism in your robart electric retracts?
The pin that carries the load of up and down lock in mine seems to bend on anything less than
a perfect landing roll out.
l'm considering installing a second cam block to the mechanism so that both pins share the loads.
Edit:
Nevermind, I found a stock photo of these units.
Look at the drive pin that is in the cam of the inside of the housing assembly.
This is all that is keeping the gear properly located during the down and locked position. As well as the up and locked position.
Obviously the loads in the up position do not come close to those in the down and locked slot.
Here is an email I just sent off to robart from their online contact form.
Dear Sirs,
I had called and sent pictures in on 6/7/13 regarding the ease with which the actuating pin on the trunion was bending on the electric gear for my giant Top Flite FW190.
The pin I refer to is the only load bearing point to keep the gear in the correct angular relationship to the design of the aircraft. This design is too weak as evidenced by the ease with which it bent when at the end of a landing roll out the strut was side loaded as I fought a cross wind to stay on the runway.
I submit, that if you were to properly locate and drill another Housing Assembly, PN# 2.3. The loads could be shared by both pin assemblies. I have searched your parts listing on your web page and was unable to find this part number listed.
Please contact me with price and availability of these parts. As I will be happy to undertake the modification and installation of these into my current units on my own.
Thank You,
Tom Richardi

RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
Do the air retracts have this same problem? I was about to order the robart electric retracts for my FW 190. Has anybody had this same issue with them please let me know.
